EOS 50mm f1.8 Mk I for sale on Ebay (cheap) 2hrs left

I know this is the wrong area but I've just found this going for about 45, even includes a free EOS650 film camera.

Ebay advert

I'm guessing that the seller doesn't know that it'd fetch a lot more as separates. Wasn't someone on here looking to get a 50mm for his new baby?

It's the Mk I 50mm by the way, optically the same as the newer one but with a metal mount and noisier motor.

Cheers mate, I might have a go at this, I've been looking at the 50mm f/1.8... it would also give me a chance to shoot with film aswell, something I've been interested in trying

I went down this road for about a month and gave up on it. I was thinking of getting a 50mm and realised they sometimes go with old cameras. Trouble is a lot of other people were onto the idea too.

You have to be very lucky to get one cheap on ebay - I wish you luck Iain. I won't be bidding.

btw... the reason I abandoned the idea was that someone with a Tamron 28-75 and a nifty told me he could see no quality difference between the two at the same settings and the 1.8 was its only advantage and then it was a little soft. Don't know if that is completely true but didn't seem enough benefit to be worth buying one.

I hear you mate, it's the f/1.8 that's attracting me though, both for even lower light potential and very shallow DOF... I suppose if I don't get on with it I could sell it on without much loss (depending on final price), it just seemed handy as I'm also interested in having a go with film and not so much looking for a big bargain... I'll see how it goes

Cheers mate, but it's sitting at 79 now so I think I'll have to give it a miss

edit: It finished at 114

Not many bargains left on Ebay these days but occasionally one can be found.

BTW with regards to the 50mm and the Tamron 28-75 being equal, I have both lenses and find that the fifty is sharper generally but the Tamron is a better all rounder. Neither would disappoint though.

Ebay is quite addictive but the last month has really pi$$ed me off.

For the second time in 2 weeks my account has been hijacked by some misserable low life..

Again reporting this matter to eBay along with changing passwords etc is just getting beyond a joke..

I have spent many thousands on eBay and still have 149 positive feedback with no negative but this scamming is getting to me..

It was me that was (is) after one of these and at 114 I might have gone for it - the mk1 50mm 1.8 lenses sell for around that mark anyway, so I would probably have been able to sell the rest.

Honestly mate, the difference in cost between the MK1 and MKII really is not worth it, they both perform the same. If you are willing to spend the extra it would be far better spent on the F1.4 version.

Well, I am hoping that a cheap mk1/mkII drops in my lap at some point in the near future as I can't really stretch to the 1.4

I may just bite the bullet and buy a new mkII and let the wife beat me up a bit when it arrives

With a new baby in the household I would think that few pictures with the 50mm would convince her that the money was well spent. All my recent shots of a baby for a paying customer where taken with the 50mm lens. Believe me when I say that the pictures from that one shoot alone more than paid for the lens.

It's a no brainer in my eyes. A MkII 50mm f/1.8 is less than 70 new from onestop. Ebay is the worse place to buy a sought after lens as prices are massively inflated.....I know, I've sold enough niche stuff in the past making a killing on some items. You could buy new & still sell a year on for near same money on EBAY. Just do it

I'm 99.9% convinced.... I just need to work on getting the guts up to go ahead and do it

Steve... I'm sure it wasn't all the lens that earned the money - if I had your skills (and paying customers) then I would happily charge for photos and save up for my L glass lenses :P

Now I have to find the best price I can get one for.

What filters would you recommend I use for baby portraits by the way?

Check out Kerso on e-bay, he gave me a great price for the 50mm 1.4 - never got it though as I plumbed for the 17-40mm f4 L

Think his e-bay shop is FLASH CAMERA

Thats great news

I would check out onestop as they were the cheapest last time I looked and people that have used them have nothing but high praise for their service. With regards to filters I didn't use any at all on my pictures, preffering to do any editing during post processing so that I had many more choices. Even though the customer wanted all black and white, I shot in colour and converted afterwards, when I showed them the pictures I also includes some very slightly colour versions which they liked a lot.

Soft focus, highkey, black and white can all be done afterwards and to the same picture to get a different finish. My advice would be to do the work in post processing for effects.
