Er...what the??

Gawd knows what's going on 'ere. Something veeery wrong with some of my pics. When I opened them in ACR, they seemed fine, then after a few seconds, the image suddenly refreshes - me not having touched anything - and at 100% looks like this!:

!?!? Some of them from the same shoot are fine, but most are not. What the hell? I have never seen anything like this before....

Re: Er...what the??

This is called "The Rubbish Nikon Effect" - think it's caused by the camera struggling to get WB (bet it's set to Auto WB) and, I'm guessing, in fairly low light conditions. Extreme versions of it appear as colour noise.

How have I arrived at this conclusion? Because there's also there's corresponding results for Canon (and even Sigma! )

Re: Er...what the??

I don't know about ACR, but I'm guessing that the image displays initially without any processing, and then changes when the default corrections are applied.

If you can upload the original RAW somewhere, I can download it and see what Bibble does to it.

Re: Er...what the??

If you want to salvage the picture? I suggest you run it through capture NX.
I have seen this with ACR on both canon and nikon raw files (I've never shot jpeg).

Re: Er...what the??

Ok. I think it's some kind of file corruption. I downloaded it again and opened it in capture one 4, and the same thing happened, so I think it must be to do with the file. Thanks for the help, not an important shot so no worries
