Ethics?

Hi, I was wondering about the ethics or "unspoken rules" on photography. One in particular, is posting pictures of strangers. If I'm in a park or something and decide to take a picture of, say, a soccer game, is there anything wrong with posting the picture online even if I don't have that individual's permission?
Also, are there any other "rules" that a beginner should know? Thanks

Walter

Re: Ethics?

I'm not an expert in these matters, but as I understand it, if you are in a public place, there is no problem.

In a private environment, you should have permission from the owner and the subjects.

If the shots are for personal use - that is not being put on the web or in any other publication or poster etc, like at a party, again, I don't think there is an issue.

Re: Ethics?

I think in most cases it is common sense. obviously its different if there are kids in the pic. a shame but in this day and age it has to be a concern.

but as Graham has pointed out if it is a public event type thing then i dont see a problem, obviously morally where possible you could ask the people in question there permission, but i dont think its a legal requirement, not in this country anyway.

Re: Ethics?

I have the same question. I took a picture of a man walking in the mud. I didn't ask permission as he was some distance away. I think the picture turned out good and would like to do something with it. Do I need his permission? I know I wouldn't like my picture turning up someplace, but then again what are the legal answers.
