Even the Pros can't agree on WB
....in these photos on the Daily Mail website. Scroll down to see two images, one by Getty and one from Wireimage, showing two distinctly different White Balances. On my monitor Brad's shirt comes up grey and then blue in the second image?

Re: Even the Pros can't agree on WB
So much for pros worrying about colour management then! It's the old story, once the image leaves your control forget about how some picture monkey/editor is going to (ab)use it.

Re: Even the Pros can't agree on WB
I think these are a few fairly disposable low res web shots. I think the pictures have a short shelf life. The worst colour one is also a poor photographic comp but does show them "loved up". (todays news) I think if it was going to print they would use one and get the colour balance correct. (or use BW) I think you will find the curves they are interested have nothing to do with the colour balance.

Re: Even the Pros can't agree on WB
Haha... if Getty didn't own WireImage, I'd say that might have merit
![]() All WireImage and Getty Images photographers (myself included) use the same software to review, cull, edit, caption and transmitt images to the global picture desk inbox. The software is called GIFT and is an acronym of Getty Images Field Tool. It's based on BreezeBrowser and is reasonably painless to use. Part of the GIFT workflow involves the use of Photoshop and it is the photographer's job to take care of all things related to image quality before they transmit the shots. The picture desk editors simply process the received files through the relevant library systems and, by and large, do not do any editing of photos once received. That said, they can and will reject transmitted photos if they fall below their quality threshold. In this case, Getty photographer Frank Micelotta was probably shooting JPG's with either a pre-set or Auto WB that was just off the mark and, rather than correct the issue in PS, he transmitted his images ASAP. FYI: WireImage had eight photographers covering this event, each assigned slightly different roles... at the end of the day, just over 2000 shots from this one event ended up going live on the WI website ![]() |
