Eye piece extender / adapter

I actually posted this somewhere else first (shock, horror), so I'll copy n paste if yer don't mind, maybe making it a bit more friendly as it's Pixalo

I recently had the change to play with Ian's (P-E's) 1DMkII, and the only thing (well...) that I liked about it over the D300 was that the eyepiece sat a nice way off the back of the body, so that your nose wasn't constantly pressed up against the LCD etc, or pressing the multi selector (though I keep it locked most of the time)
Is there some kind of eyepiece adapter for the D300 that places the eyepiece further away from the body? I know there is a plethora of things like that around, but had a quick search and didn't come up with much.

Any ideas you lot?

Jack

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

Well, if you had a proper camera you could use an eyepiece extender....

Amazon.co.uk: Canon Camera Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15: Canon: Electronics & Photo

... but as one of the reviews states, it is, in fact, a waste of time/money because it makes the vewfinder image smaller, so it's like looking down a tube. If anyone wants one of these I would be happy to give it away.

Other than that, the best solution Jack is to save up for a serious nose job.

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

The Nikon DK-21M is what you want Jack. There is a very slight magnifying of the VF image - 1.1x, I think, but you will not notice it. At about 20 from Jessop's, or cheaper from e-bay, it won't break the bank.

This is what it looks like.

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

Thanks for the links guys (well...Graham ), might get me one of those. Be nice to have clearer MF anyway, didn't know about those kinds of accessories, mostly wrote them off as costly Nikon pushed 'must haves', but perhaps not...

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

Well I've got one on both of my cameras, mainly due to my previously 20/20 vision now heading down the pan. It's got to the stage that if I have a dream and don't put my glasses on, I wake up with a headache!

I wear varifocal glasses and sometimes struggle with focus - could not do without AF now - but these eyepieces with their very tiny magnification factor do help.

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

Hey Slikstone

If you dismantle the eyepiece with some watchmakers screwdrivers you can remove the offending piece of glass then your left with a proper extender with no Interference of the normal view, I got one on both my 20D and 40D.

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

But can you then still see the whole area of the viewfinder? I wear glasses and have to press them up close to the viewfinder to see everything, even without having an extender to space it out further.

According to the Nikon web site - yes.

There are several other eyepieces available too here.

Re: Eye piece extender / adapter

Arrived today. Looks good, they say some of the viewfinder image is obscured, but perhaps that's the D200 downwards only, because it aint on my D300. Perhaps a tad small compared to the 1DMkIIN one, but certainly an improvement over the original one, which almost sat behind the LCD screen in terms of distance away from the body.

Thanks Graham
