Question filters?

I just got my first DSLR and the lens is a 18-55mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor VR lens. The guy who sold it to me a large electronics store sold me a 52 mm UV filter and I'm not quite sure it's the right one...Could someone explain to me how to put on a filter or let me know it's the wrong size filter.

THANKS!

Re: filters?

For protection it will be fine......should just screw on to the front of the lens.

Re: filters?

Yup, 52mm is the right size - as P-E says, screws on the front

Re: filters?

As has been said it just screws on. Be careful though as the threads are very fine and it is possible to get them crossed if you are not careful. It is always worth having a UV filter on for protection as I have just found out. As a rather extreme case I dropped the camera and wrecked the filter but it protected the lens. More usually it will protect the lens from scratches etc.

Re: filters?

I think you might have gotten confused with the 55mm in in the 18-55mm, 18 is the minimum zoom and 55mm is the maximum zoom your lens has, 52mm is the diameter of the front of the lens.
