Flash Cards

Hi Guys.
I have just invested in a Cannon EOS10D Camara, but cannot connect it to my computer, from what I have read it seems the easy thing to do is use a card reader.
My Camara has a 256mg Flash card, can some one come up with what I could buy to use, I am used to the cards in my fuji, but not come across these flash cards before.

Re: Flash Cards

Presume you mean a Compact Flash (CF) card.

You can get an 'All-in-One' card reader that will accept most memory cards. 7Day Shop are as cheap as any and have free delivery too

7dayshop.com - Online Store

You can get card readers that will only take one type of card - SD,CF,SDHC etc. These are cheaper still, but the multi-card ones are more flexible.

Re: Flash Cards

Thanks Dabhand.
I have another question, I have just tried to format the flashcard in my camara, it does not completely format it leving some 8mb unformatted, any Ideas please, what made me try this, I took some photos over Christmas, just practising, managed to print what was on the card on one of my printers, they were crap, but the first 5 I think were of a Ford car (KA) nothing to do with me, so must be left overs from the previous owner.

Thanks ColinE

Re: Flash Cards

It will always use a small amount to set the file system for the card. The 256mg card you have will give you about 100 Large/Fine jpg images which is fine until you upgrade your camera or if you start taking RAW+Lge/Fine photos you will only get about 30 photographs. Don't invest in more, larger and faster C F cards until you are sure you are staying with that storage system.

Re: Flash Cards

Compact Flash Card readers...
Just as a point of interest, if anyone has a Epson printer, like mine, it has a quite good multi-card reader in the front of it?...
Some other printers have just the same sort of ports for "most" cards these days.

You mentioned that you have a Canon....

I have found the software necessary to "Link" the Canon to a computer is clumsy, infective, and a right PAIN....

As most modern multi-card readers use a generic driver, and are about as plug-and-play as you can wish for, the card reader is about as much as you could ever wish for.

Also remember that Windows(XP) did NOT come as standard with a "Raw" viewer...
If you shoot in RAW at any point, the generic pic viewer will not recognise your shots, so head over to windows site and grab the necessary shell extension to allow you RAW...

Its here for XP, dont know about other operating systems, but google is your friend....
