Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
Any one been before is it worth a looky? seeing as we are so close might be worth a wander down.
Bit close to the wedding but still something to do on our week off. |

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
I've been the last couple of years. As to whether it's worth it, well I didn't come back loaded with anything that I got cheap (but there are some that do) and I didn't learn anything devastating (tho' it was useful for handling Sigma SD14 and the Fuji S5). Worth registering beforehand to avoid the queues and get in free (tho' I feel that I paid for that piece of tarmac in the car park @ £7!)

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
I went last year and as Mark said i doubt your come away with any earth shattering knowledge but it is great to see and handle gear you've got your eye on or get demos on things. As your about to do your first wedding there is quite a lot to cater for that side of the industry so you might get some ideas on presenting your work to the happy couple. If your just up the road I'd say its well worth a look, and you want to try out lenses for your camera take your body along, they do have bodies but it can get busy and you might have to wait about.
Trade visitors get in for free and non-trade entry is £6 and it is definitely worth registering and/or buying buying your tickets before hand, I queued for about 50 min's last year ![]()

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
Oh yes! Flippin' weddings! Year before last the whole place was awash with wedding folders - maybe all the suppliers had gone bust as there were far fewer last year! But I'd have to admit it's probably worth going for them alone (if that's what interests you!)

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
I usually go every other year. It is quite handy if you want to buy something but you do need to know prices before you set out. I did not buy very much this year as there did not seem to be many bargains but in 2005, I bought my DSLR and a Canon Lens at a good price. I bought from a reputable dealer at £50+ below their advertised web prices which I checked before I set out. I think it is worth a visit but not every year.

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
I have been for the past four years, I think since it started. It has got better each year. Adobe has a useful stand where they show a large screen of many different manipulations on various photos, very useful to see first hand all of the icon use.
If you go on line and register you will get a free pass (not for your car!!) and also you can view all of the exhibitors. As for purchases I got a bargain on my Canon 350D two years ago which was arefurbished one from Canon UK with 12 months warranty. £ 350 when they were going for cheapest £500. . Lots of Albums ,frames Wedding stuff etc. Out of all of the major camera manufacturers CANON have been missing since the first year. I gather they will be present at the next Focus in February 2008. I hope this helps Brian |

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
Who's going to give out the Pixalo carrier bags? Or the 'not carrier bags' made from recycled Nikons?

Re: Focus on Imaging 2008 NEC
Monday or Tuesday will be best. First day Sunday can get crowded with more consumers. Wednesday is the last day and most of the stock of the retail outlets has gone and it closes a little earlier.
Percentage of visitors in 2007 was 29% non trade & 27% for visitors interested in Wedding/Portrait Photography/Schools. 2-8% were made up of each of many other interests. Last edited by brian wright22 : 19-12-2007 at 16:51. |
