check your manual for a focus assist lamp. if it has one, enable it.

Re: focusing under low light conditions help

Canon DSLRs use the flash as a focus assist lamp, and the rapid flashes when you half-press the shutter are supposed to provide enough light for the AF system to work. If that doesn't seem reliable, make sure you're in One Shot mode and that you're aiming at something with reasonable contrast. It helps if the lens has a wide maximum aperture.

If all else fails, use a torch and/or focus manually.

Re: focusing under low light conditions help

Some flashguns have an AF assist facility too, not sure, but I think they will be the makers dedicated units or hi-spae third party flashguns with dedication for individual cameras.

Re: focusing under low light conditions help

Bump up the ISO on your camera & have the lens wide open (eg, lowest f/ number). This is to let as much possible light in to the camera & thus aid focusing. In addition, choose focus point manually to help camera choose correct place to focus from

I have seen people usea small maglite torch as other say. Switch it on to get focus locked, then switch back off, then take shot.
