Question Focussing problems on EOS450D

I have a new EOS 450D with the image stablised 18-55 kit lens. The results I get from around 35-55mm are good - very sharp and with fine detail. However when I zoom out to wide angle the results are disppointing to say the least. Zooming in on the image on my PC reveals a lack of detail and generally out of focus subjects - almost like motion blur, but then it's a stablised lens and it even happens at fast shutter speeds. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks

Re: Focussing problems on EOS450D

Might be a good idea to take it back to the shop, explain the problem and try another lens on the camera if they will let you and see if it produces the same problem, if not it's the lens and should be replaced.
It does happen. I recieived a 70-200 f4 though the post a few years ago that had to go straight back as it wasn't producing sharp shots. Then again, it could also be the camera as I've had to send back a 40D that stopped focusing.

Re: Focussing problems on EOS450D

By all means get the lens & Body checked straight away John.

You have to bare in mind though that at 35-55mm shots when you are viewing on the monitor has far less magnifiction required when looking at 18mm zoomed in digitally on your monitor. Try to do some tests on a subject at 18mm,with the subject filling the frame and with some decent content with fine detail. Then set the lens to 35mm then 55mm and move the camera back so that you frame the same amount of area of the subject. This way you will not have to zoom in digitally when viewing the shots on your monitor and this will make a fair comparison meaningfull.

I hope this helps. Brian
