Framing for hanging in bathroom
Hi,
I would like to frame a picture for hanging in the bathroom but really don't know what method would work. I thought about perspex but from what I can tell the picture is stuck to the back of the perspex giving an illusion of being inside. Is this right. Can anyone advise to best methods and where I can get it done? Many thanks, Ian |

Re: Framing for hanging in bathroom
Acrylic ('Perspex') is used to save cost/weight, but is not as good as glass - it scratches very easily.
You should be able to use most types of frame provided you seal them properly. You could use thin beads of silicone sealant between the frame and the glass, and between the frame and the backing panel. For good measure you could include some silica gel crystals to absorb any moisture that did get inside. An extractor fan would be a good idea too!

Re: Framing for hanging in bathroom
I would laminate the pic first then frame it in a plastic frame of some sorts.

Re: Framing for hanging in bathroom
Bathroom is a very hostile environment. As well as damp sealing also consider the temperature extremes that will have an effect on expansion and contraction of the frame.

Laminate then frame. A few sites do large prints as laminates, I have used posterXXL - Poster printing, big and affordable. Order easily and conveniently online! roger |

Re: Framing for hanging in bathroom
I don't know if it's still available but a few places used to supply prints made the same way as pottery images, which are waterproof. It's some kind of silk-screen printing, so you're using oil based pigments that are relatively unaffected by moisture or temperature changes.
