For the last six months, I have been trying, in vain, to get Future Publishing to stop sending me copies of a magazine, which I subscribed to a couple of years back...
I tried their registered email address, the one on the email they sent me saying contact us to change your subscription status, I tried all the usual routes....
This was even the way they suggested to go about it when I telephoned their subscription telephone number, the advice was "Drop us a line at the Email address with your subscription details, as we cant do this over the phone"...
Did I get any response?..

Put it this way, its easier to get a change of address recognised by the Vogon high council...

So, I contacted my bank, and told them to NEVER pay them a penny, ever again....
I cancelled the Direct Debit.

I was thinking it was a bit drastic, doing it that way, I would rather have had contact with the firm before they tried to take money and found I had blocked their direct debit, as I kind of think its a bit rude doing things that way?...

So, Today, I got mail from them, saying they had tied to take the direct debit and had had mail from the bank saying I had cancelled their direct debit, and unfortunately (I love that bit...) this meant they would be cancelling the subscription...

So I phoned them, to find out what went wrong...
The above quote was the EXACT words spoken to me when I enquired as to why it had taken six months of ignored emails to get them to cancel my subscription.

I couldnt quite believe my ears?...

Anyway, I then asked to speak to someone in the management, who I ended up putting the phone down on, as they insisted that it was probably my fault for sending emails to the wrong address....
Erm... ya think I didnt double check where I was sending it to?.. treble check even?...

I post this as a warning...

If you have got a subscription with this bunch of fools, the only way to stop that subscription is to NOT pay them, and block their direct debit by your bank.

phew! my experience was the complete opposite i subscibed for 1 year as with magaizines they tend to duplicate after a while ..so emailed them, cancelled my subscription and never heard anymore from them again..but i have had your experience with different companies where i did the same as you and cancelled the direct debit. As for

Exactly my experence with them! I don't subscribe to any mags anymore, I simply buy issues that have topics/articles that have a particular interest for me.

hmmmm if i want to cancel anything i rarely contact the company.......... infact i cancelled a couple of direct debits on TUesday............ I reckon its the only way to make sure you are not paying for anything you really dont want!

Sort of agree; I always cancel with the bank first then inform the the company.

The trouble is there is nobody at the other end!!! I used to subscribe to have a weekly magazine which was delivered to my door days before it was on sale in the shops, I got sick of the contents so I cancelled the direct debit, then they started sending me two copies of the same magazine this went on for a further twelve months they did not ask a penny for these free copies!!! there was no contact from the mag but I did send a letter to them to cancel the mags but they kept on coming for months afterwards and then they stopped!!! I have just canceled another 2 mags but one of them still comes!!! I noticed on my bank statement that the subs go out one day and are put back the following day!!! which makes me beleive that there is nobody at the other end!!! I give up!

Very, very frustrating. The trouble is, you cannot dispose of the unsoliceted copies ,in law you have to keep them for a reasonable time for the sender to collect; I believe its 6 months!
