Hi all, as a newcomer to Pixalo i've been impressed by the resources, experience and general warm welcome from all its members. Its really pushed me to get out there and get some shots.
I was just wondering if members ever organise get togethers, or photography days, to enable us less experienced folk to watch and learn first hand how its done.

The short answer to your question is yes. Some members will go to sports events and meet up with other members who are also going to the same place. Bigger meetings have been arranged between members too. Rob Barron did one on the South Coast and several members attend the events at Chatsworth and other event venues.

However, these things always end up being much more difficult than you would imagine and some attempts to arrange meetings have failed due to people not being available at the same time or having to drop out for various reasons after initially showing interest. Sometimes the weather washes out the enthisiasm to go out too

If you want to arrange a meeting yourself, feel free. You can get feedback on the interest in any ideas on the forum.

Dab mentioned the only meetup I remember happening in my time here - there's been a few attempts at others that have died through lack of response

You'd be better off trying Flickr. They have user groups which cater to specific areas of interest - both geographically and by subject. It's much easier to get something arranged when you know everyone reading is at least in the area.

Each time this question comes up I think what a good idea to have a get together then when dates are mentioned I'm away (which I am a lot) I wanted to do the horse trials last year but as time came near I was away again on walkabouts ............

Thanks for the replies everyone. I can appreciate the logistics of getting something off the ground, can be difficult. Have checked out Flickr, and there are a few groups in and around the North East which could be worth checking out.

Silky organised a meet at a falconry centre a while ago and that worked well. I think one option is to do this in an informal way. Pick somewhere you plan to go to anyway and just tell the rest of Pixalo about it. If anyone turns up it is a bonus and if not - well you were going anyway.
