Genuine Fractals Pro
Does anyone use the above program?
I've recently seen this being used on someones computer and it looked quite impressive though I never seen the printout. The guy turned a normal raw photo out of a 40D into one which changed into something like 6ft x 4ft. From what I could see on his monitor there was very little loss of IQ if any that I could see, obviously the resulting tiff file was huge, way over the gig mark. I'm assuming that I perhaps did not see loss of IQ because of monitor size. Also in the pic he was able to zoom into a object which would normally have been to small to display on the screen and it turned out quite good on the monitor without much loss of IQ. All in all it looked quite impressive. I assume a specailised printshop could take these large files and turn them into large posters.

Re: Genuine Fractals Pro
I've used GFP and it's pretty good, tho' got to say that PS isn't too shabby (and no, never have found the 10% incremental enlarging that some suggest, to have any benefit). Depending on what you're enlarging (graphic, geommetrical, landscape, etc) determines the best algorithm.
Of course, you don't get something for nothing and there is a penalty to be paid with interpolating an image further upwards - but most cameras (Canon, Nikon, etc) have interpolated images anyway, so it's just taking it all a stage further. |

Re: Genuine Fractals Pro
I have not used GFP but an alternative is Alien Skin's Blowup which I quite like. As Mark says nothing comes for free but Blowup has produced quite reasonable englagements for me. I have never tried it at extreme enlargements though typically I use no more that say 30% of an image to 100% and print at A4.

Re: Genuine Fractals Pro
I also have used it, I also tried Alien Skin Blowup and they both do very good job, the only thing I liked more about Blowup is that its faster to process, Genuine Fractals takes for ever.
I used both blowing up a 5x7 to 36x54 and they both look very good no big noticeable difference between them, just the speed. BlowUp time : 2 Min. 10 sec. Genuine Fractals PrintPro 5.0 time: 7 Min. 47 sec. Maybe thats why BlowUp costs about $60 US Dlls more than G Fractals ![]() Last edited by j sotelo : 09-05-2008 at 01:45. |
