Gonna try some HDR & IR Photography with Autumn foliage

Change of plans mean I will be shooting at Westonbirt tomorrow.

Considering using the D200 with Sigma 10-20mm, with Polariser fitted, using autobracketting to try out some HDR. I'm thinking of getting the colour HDR to correct point & then converting to Mono We'll see.

As outlook is for minimal wind , I'll also be taking the Nikon D70 with 50mm fitted with Hoya R72 Filer, to try & get some decent IR shots.

Stand back crowds..... tog nerd coming thru

Great idea. I tried some at Westonbirt and at Bodenham Arboretum. Using Photomatix they came out looking natural. Backlit leaves and deep shadow come out very well.

Here is one of my images with a large contrast range.
There is another on my Westonbirt positng taken when it was very dull.
I'm still getting the hang of Photomatix and taking the right pictures for it. They need a lot more range of exposure than you think. +/- 2 stops is not quite enough to capture the full dynamic range.
Wind is a problem the trees move quite a bit between exposures.

Re: Gonna try some HDR & IR Photography with Autumn foliage

Lesson of the day ....always check opening times for weekdays vs w/e's . Turned up at 08:10 am with perfect light , some mist , only to find it opens at 09:00 I could see the light wouldn't be what I was after at 09:00 so headed home ..... only to find after 90 mile round trip the mist was still deep about 1 mile from home, so spent 30 mins taking shots there

This is not usually and issue. There is an Honesty box by the hut in the normal car park. If challenged while on site say you put your fee in the honesty box and remember to put in some pennies on the way out. I assume thats how it is supposed to work.

On busy autum days you may need some camoflarge out of hours. Wear a reflective jacket to blend in with all the staff milling about waiting for opening time.
