Graphics Tablet..

Hello Everyone, how are we all this evening?

Just a quicky question regarding graphics tablets, Being a novice I am unsure of the full functions off a Graphics Tablet
I would like to know if I could use the pen feature for selecting parts of an image that I would like to edit instead of those Lasso Tools which I find very awkward to use.

I guess that I would only need the smaller version just for this kind of work and not the A4 size one, and will the cheapo jobs be ok for just doing this selection kind off work.

Lastly I know that most run from the USB socket but are they easy to use, how does your image get onto the tablet screen?

Thanking you all

John.

Re: Graphics Tablet..

Graphics tablets do take a little getting used to, but once you have tried one there is no going back.

I've got a Trust A4, but I know they do an A5 one for about £39 on Amazon (or they did when I got mine).

Charlotte and I have written sepreate reviews and came to pretty much the same conclusions.

Wacom are probably the best, but my Trust was about £100 cheaper, so I rate it good value.

You still use the same tools as with the mouse - they are just much easier to control! The image stays on your monitor - the tablet is only a 'blackboard' you use the stylus on. The reults of your drawing are displayed on the monitor same as the mouse.

Trust TB2100 Tablet & Wireless Mouse - Tesco.Direct

i got a Trust a5 tablet from tesco (see link) very cheap and its very good. i have never owned any other tablet to compare but it does everything perfectly and i have not found any problems with it yet and its easy to use. i even find A5 is a bit too big and use the software included to reduce the size of the working area. selecting areas of pics with the lassoo tool is easyer with the pen than a mouse i found simply because is it second nature to use a pen to draw with ect. basically you use the pen the same as you would a mouse but in my opinion with far more control over selections ect

Re: Graphics Tablet..

Hi Graham and Mr. Blue sky,

Checked out the reviews for the trust model it looks like the A5 is the one for me, also pleased that the Trust model will do the job nicely and that I won't have to pay out the extra for the wacom version

Mr. Blue sky,
Thank you for the link £23 boy you can't complain at that can you

Thanks guys

Re: Graphics Tablet..

Hi Guys,

Have just noticed the Wacom Volito 2 on Amazon also at a very affordable price for a Wacom, just a little over £30 for the A6 size, got good reviews from Amazon buyers, then I came back to this site and see it's also reviewed here with favourable comments. must also add that the wacom model looks nice with it's black finish. ( not that the colour makes it a better instrument in use)

Take care
John

Re: Graphics Tablet..

Love mine (Wacom btw) and find that the smallest one is just as easy to use.

Quick tip: if you find yourself having trouble controlling the pen on the slippery surface, tape a piece of plain paper around the surface ... slows your movements down considerably!

Re: Graphics Tablet..

Love my tablet, Have used it since day one. Will try the paper like Cathie T say's, sounds like a good tip. If you have PS you can go to quick mask mode and use a brush. You have to develope your own style when it comes to using a pin. I like to use the quicxk mask on the background, in verse, then duplicate the layer and only the selected area comes out on the new layer leaving the background untouched. Tablet screens are nice and you use the pin tool on the screen it self, this is different from the tablet where it is like a mouse.
