Hi guys, need a piece of advice here, what would be the best buy for me here taking into account that landscapes are my no1 choice,
Manfrotto 496RC2 Ball Head with Friction Control,
Manfrotto Joystick ball hitch Premium 327 RC 2, or
Manfrotto 322RC2 Heavy Duty Grip Ball Head, thanx for any help

Re: Head

I'd go for a ball head. I use a Manfrotto 486RC2, but I think that the latest version the 496 with the friction screw and is 55 in Calumet.

I think that the joystick type that have the horizontal grip like the 322/327 will only allow you to rotate the camera to portrait orientation one way. The other way will probably have the grip fowl the tripod.

My vote is for the 496.

Re: Head

That is it exactly - normally comes with the plate included in the box. I use one and the friction can be adjusted to have the same feel according to the lens (weight) you have. Very stable when locked in the normal position. Needs a bit extra tightening when tilted out of normal or with a heavy lens without its own mount. Worth getting a couple of extra plates though if you're going to use it with other cameras or lenses.

Re: Head

Yep - as Grease spot says they come with one RC2 QR plate, but I bought extra RC2 plates - one for my D300 and the other for my 80-200 lens. I leave them permanently attached to the cameras and lens. IIRC that are about 12.

Goo price from Amazon - they are 55 at Calumet.
