Help With Graphic Tablets!!!???

Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy a graphic tablet, and I dont know which one to buy i have read so many reviews and looked at different brands still confused!!

1) I am looking to buy a tablet which is reasonable priced

2) I would like to use it for design programs like photoshop, mainly for drawing

I have come across wacom which is the common product out there, but i have come across Trust tablets which have mixed reviews on, is the 7300 Tablet the latest modle from Trust?? and is it worth buying??

What is appealing to me about Trust tablet, is the price!! and also the large space area you get to work on.

Any advise reagarding Tablets would be helpfull

Re: Help With Graphic Tablets!!!???

Hi and welcome

I see this is your first post and no one has replied. This does not usually happen at Pixalo.

I am sorry I cannot help you directly as I do not use a tablet (yet) although I have thought about one several times but lack of desk space is a problem.

Have you looked through the equipment review forum on the site. I do not know if anything is there or not.

One thing I have picked up about tablets is that a big size is not always a good thing as you have to move the pen about too much. Many people semed to me to be happy with A5 or even A6 tablets. Another thing I have heard people comment on is the pressure sensitivity of the pen is very important

I hope someone else with some actual experiance of a tablet will be able to help you soon

Once again welcome to Pixalo.

Wacom are very good. Take a look at some reviews here :- Pixalo Photographic Equipment Reviews - Printers, Scanners, Graphic Tablets & Media Storage -

I bought one of the smaller Wacoms which worked fine for me

Re: Help With Graphic Tablets!!!???

Hello fahima, welcome to Pixalo

I have two graphic tablet models, being the Trust A4 and the Wacom Volito2. I find the A4 size much too big, and this tablet is now sitting in a cupboard It's a very good tablet, just too big for photo editing.

I highly recommend the Wacom Volito 2. I love it so much that I bought a 2nd one for my laptop

Re: Help With Graphic Tablets!!!???

I also have a Volito2 but unfortunately it is now discontinued - the Waco Bamboo seems to be the replacement.

A6 is quite large enough for most purposes, and (as Charlotte says) A4 is too big. I'd recommend Wacom rather than Trust.

Re: Help With Graphic Tablets!!!???

Wacom now do a range called the Bamboo range and they are the size you want for photo editing. As Charlotte has said, the larger ones are not designed for photo editing but for large scale graphics and CAD work. An A6 graphics tablet is perfect as it gives you accuracy and means you do not have to keep moving your hand position.

Having said that, do remember that most larger ones allow you to 'remap' the tablet so that you are only using a smaller area instead of the full size so even using an A4 tablet is still fine.

The pen itself is worth checking out with whatever tablet package you are considering. Some have a pen that uses a battery, avoid these as they make the pen feel heavy and unbalanced.

In terms of the pressure sensitivity, some have 512 levels and others have 1,024 levels. THIS IS NOT IMPORTANT! You will never notice the difference between the two when using it for photo editing so don't bother about it. If you like everything else, you will not miss the extra pressure levels if you go for the 512 model.

The main differences in the Bamboo range (Wacom) are whether or not they come with graphics editing software and things. I THINK they still do a version that includes Photoshop Elements but I am not sure whether this is the latest version (version 6) or not. That is only of significance if you haven't got editing software already but if you haven't, it might save you a few pounds to get it in a pack. However, don't go for it just for the software if the software is not what you would otherwise have chosen.

If you check out tablets on Ebay, you will still find Wacom Graphire tablets and pens and these are excellent. There are two currently listed and at very low starting prices so would definitely be worth checking out. Go to ebay and search for Wacom Graphire.

I can assure you once you have had a graphics pen for a week, you'll never want to go back to a mouse for photo editing again and you'll wonder how you managed without one!

Hope the above is of help to you. Let us know what you end up getting.

Cheers,
Rob

It took me a lot longer than a week to get used to using a graphic tablet. But I persevered, and now I use it instead of a mouse, I don't even have a mouse attached to my pc anymore - it's nice to regain a bit of desk space and I find that I don't get the stiff/achy hand which I used to get from using a mouse for prolonged periods.

Re: Help With Graphic Tablets!!!???

With your purchase of any Graphire tablet, you'll get valuable art and photo editing software, including Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 to help you edit photos, Nik Color Efex Pro 2 GE to help you selectively add creative color effects and filters to any photo, and Corel Painter Essentials 2 to help you create unique artwork from your digital photos.
(insert taken from wacom site)
I own two tablets but I like the Grapire Tablet best. I have the same problem as the others, my other tablet is too big.

Graphire

Thank you everyoneeeeeeeeeeeeee!! for your reply.

I think i will go back and look at wacom tablets again, also maybe a small one for the time beeing mite be better, as it will be my first ever graphic tablet! lol

Actually Im looking to go back in to my design work which i have studied, and the mouse is really annoying me when im using the paint brush or drawing tool, that is where the graphic tablet would come in handy!!
