Question Help me spend £1,000 / $2,000 on Photography Gear

Well I've just sold the hifi gear, to help fund my photography habit , so have a grand burning a hole in my pocket. So what should I buy

Some options

- A decent telephoto zoom ..... I only have up to 55mm at present
- A 85mm f/1.8 lens for portrait work
- Studio lights setup
- A Nikon D300
- Wait for VP to sell his D2X
- Go full frame with Canon 5D, selling all Nikon gear & starting again
- Wait for Canon 7D

PS. No Nikon vs Canon bashing please ..... we love them all

You already have a perfectly good camera, the lens will not dent that sum, I'd spent it on lights, Lee filters, pocket wizards, all the little things that still are of considerable expense.

I have to ask - did you really sell your hifi without a definite idea of what you were funding?

Daughter took over my Hi Fi room, so it was only sat there in storage ...... but yes, in my normal style (just ask Steve ), no pre planning ... just did it.

Yikes!

Well, I still reckon spend it on all the paraphernalia that isn't a camera or lens, your photos are quite good enough!

Your current photo's don't seem to warrant getting pocket wizards, E-bay remotes are probably your safest bet if you wanted to venture more into off camera lighting (for sports and all that.)

An additional camera body, i think, would be a waste - you already have a perfectly good alternative camera.

Full Frame?? for what...I know alot of professional photographers who get on just fine without full frame.

You have a few lenses as it is, but... here are my suggestions.

---You only have the one flash listed in your profile - SB800, so i would get another flash (or more )

---A 50mm f1.4/f1.6 (you get the idea) Prime for portraiture

If you really want to rid yourself of the money quickly, and if you can scrape another couple hundred - providing you need it, then the 70-200mm VR blah blah is a good option.

But, Tamron has a nice 55-200mm that gives great results, especially at around 150mm onwards. The only problem with the lens is the f4-5.6 range.

Also, some Studio lighting would be amazing...

So, to recap, i would say:

SB800 - £220
Esprit Gemini 200/200 Studio In A Box Kit - £430
Ebay Triggers - £30
Tamron AF 55-200mm F/4-5.6 Di II MACRO LD - £120
Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D - £190

With the other £10 you can get it all delivered

I'd go with...

1 x Elinchrom D-Lite 2 Twin Head Kit.

And putting the rest into the garage to studio conversion you've been chatting on about!

i didn't see the 50mm you already have the first time round, so maybe the 85mm is still an option...
