Help please?

Can someone please tell me what i'm doing wrong. When i open my high res image from Lightroom to Photoshop then save my image after editing, why does Photoshop downsize the image file? I'm using the Nikon d610 which has a very large file! Help please?

Re: Help please?

First thing to check is your Lightroom export settings. I bet you are re-sizing at this stage.

This tells me that you are exporting as jpgs - and the quality setting is where you are getting this % age from, and no, changing this will not affect the size of the image, it affects the file size.

Look in the export dialogue for the section image sizing. It is the one below the section where you found the quality slider. Make sure that the check box 're-size to fit' is not ticked.

Re: Help please?

Easiest way is to right-click on the image in Lightroom and select "Edit in Photoshop". This bypasses the export settings and will open a full resolution image in PS (with Lightroom adjustments). After you have finished editing in PS click on "Save" and the edited image will be put back into Lightroom.

I used to do this, but for some reason the images did not carry the LR tweaks into Photoshop so I started using the export dialogue. Could not find a setting that I might have either not set or accidentally turned off.

I remember initially getting a dialogue after right clicking and selecting 'edit in PS' with options that included 'edit with LR adjustments', but later this did not appear and the image opened into Photoshop (not ACR) and I had to re-do what I'd just done in LR

I looked at the Adobe forums and this issue was rife there, so not just me that got this.

After I changed the workflow I think it was quicker to go through them in LR then export to a folder and take them into PS for final polishing. I also used to find having the final edits in LR also added a bit of clutter with the dupe images.

Re: Help please?

You get the dialogue box if you right-click on a TIFF or JPEG file.

Aaah! I usually import and work on RAW files and convert to 16 bit tiffs on export. Thanks for this bit of info John Solved what was a bit of an enigma for me.

Re: Help please?

Graham, I actually just use the short cut Ctl E which is the same as right click and Edit in photoshop. I do not know many short cuts but this is one I always use. This brings up the Options Dialogue you mentioned. A while back I had the same problem as you. My version of LR was newer than my version of PS. The result is that changes in LR may be ignored. To avoid this, you must tick "with LR adjustments". At some point I unintentionally ticked don't show this again on one of these dialogs and thus was never asked again if I wanted to use LR adjustments. Fortunately I found the solution. Go into LR Preferences>General towards the bottom there is a button "Reset All Warnng Dialogs". The appropriate warning returned and I was thus able to continue choosing "with LR adjustments".

I have been fortunate to have the most recent version of LR and PS for the last couple of years so this problem does not occur now as it does not matter whether LR or PS renders the image if they are the same version. I currently use the Photographic CC so not a problem.

Re: Help please?

Thanks for that Dave I also used CTL +E but with the same result But I will try that re-set. Thanks.

I think that I might have been using a later LR with CS3, and have not tried it since updating to CS6.

Re: Help please?

Just fired up the desktop and lo and behold I can now use right click>edit in PS with LR adjustments! CTL+E works too

Thanks Dave. it must have been using CS3 with later versions of LR. I'n now on LR5.x and CS6 and it works just fine again.

Re: Help please?

To be fair I originally picked up the tip from another forum but that is the advantage in helping each other.
