Re: Hi-res Files
When I was asked for some images I specifically asked what size, dpi, colour space and file type they wanted. I got back very specific details and was able to meet their requirements but this was from a photography magazine, so if you are dealing with a sports mag they may not know themselves?
If that's the case I would try to find out what size they will be printed at and then submit the shots at 300dpi in RGB and to those dimensions in .tiff format. Don't forget to include all your details in the tags and your name/contact on the cd/dvd as well if submitting in hard format ![]()

Re: Hi-res Files
As large as you can produce, JPEG or TIFF files, very important, no sharpening as this distorts in PS.
If you are not getting a full page or larger they will only need 6mb files, but is best to send the largest you have. Watch your copyright. And well done. |

Re: Hi-res Files
I applied a small amount of sharpening to mine before submitting them. As to emailing..its fine to email large files..there are usually no limits, but to receive large files by email requires their server to be set up to allow it.
Is it a magazine that is likely to know what they are doing with the images or not? |

Re: Hi-res Files
I've been asked to send TIFFs before now, so v large (if there are any email probs over size, then use YouSendIt - Send large files - transfer delivery - FTP Replacement - 100MB files, 1GB/month for free). And I've always processed to the point where I'm happy with the shot (and never had any rejected)

Re: Hi-res Files
I'd just ask them if theres a specific size and format, saves the worry
My horse ones just go as standard 3200pixels x whatever JPGs, the biggest I had was 1/2 page with that. They will soon tell you if they cant work with it. Really depends on the mag, or try freelance handbook that sometimes tells you certain magazines preferences. |

Re: Hi-res Files
Thanks for all the helpful advice
I've sent just one image to see if it's usable although I think I've made a mess of it ![]() What started off as a 16bit file 46.8MB file > cropped, converted to 8bit and saved as a jpeg, then finished up as a 2.63MB file ![]() |
