re: High shots

Nope, but I do know that folk have successfully used modified R/C helicopters fore aerial photography, particularly in conjunction with remote camera control software over WiFi.

It works out a ton cheaper than hiring a full sized 'copter for doing location based aerial work such as estate agency (realtor) shots and commercial work.

Another interesting project that I've seen is where folk from Oklahoma State University attached a dSLR to a sounding balloon in a specialised housing. They got some crazy / impressive shots from altitudes up to 104,000 feet

re: High shots

Quite some time ago I was briefly involved with a modle aircraft group when they wanted to put a smoke system like the Red Arrows on one of their model jets. It worked OK .

Someone told me that he had tried some photography but that it did not work too well and he wanted to try with a helicopter.. I do not know how that went,

I have seen what happens when one of the models crashed and I would not want to put an good camera on it. I guess an DSLR would be too heavy in any case.

Some of these model flying groups have web sites so it should be easy to find someone who knows more about it.

If you have a specific target in mind why not try a bunch of tethered helium balloons as a platform which should be more easily controlled and safer for the camera and much less expensive. You could possibly risk a DSLR and a remote release with such a system.

Re: High shots

Well what I was actually thinking of was an electric glider with a compact strapped under a wing. The battery I would have used 10years ago would have weighed significantly more than the compact, new Lipo battery and actuating servo put together.

Re: High shots

There's a neat little camera called the FlyCam - designed mainly for RC helis but could also be used with fixed-wing...
