Home printing panoramas

Assuming you can get a roll of A4 paper how do you go about printing panoramas? I have a Cannon MP630 but can't work out how to make it print a long strip. Do you need a specialized Printer?

Re: Home printing panoramas

One of the first things I would look into are the restrictions that a printer manufacturer puts on margins so that ink does not overflow the paper. If you are limited by this then all other possibilities are out the window. The next is the optical wheel that positions the paper. These are calibrated to the movement of the rollers. You may be able to setup custom paper size (e.g. for a very large envelope) for your printer assuming that the operating system printer spooler will allow it.

Just a few thoughts ... perhaps

Re: Home printing panoramas

My first thought on reading the thread was take/send it to a specialist printer. But, out of curiosity, I looked further at my own set-up. None of my photoedit/view programs give the option to print a panorama so I then looked into Printer Set-up. I have a Canon ix4000 A3 printer and the best I could find was the facility to print a poster but that would be made up of multiple A4 sheets and no facility for roll-paper.

IMO, if you are seriously thinking of trying this then you will need a printer that recognises roll fed paper. That in itself probably wont be enough since you will need the software to tell the printer to use roll paper and the print dimensions.

PS......this might do the job for you I've never seen a desktop printer that takes rolls but that's not to say there aren't any.

Re: Home printing panoramas

The general consensus at our camera club is that it is cheaper to pay someone else to print them than it is to do it yourself. Easier too. A lot of people use this Digital photo printing - Online digital photo printing made easy company and they are pretty good at what they do and dirt cheap.

Re: Home printing panoramas

Thanks for all your replies
I just happened to stumble across a photo exhibition and a guy said he had done the pano. himself and that A4 rolls are available on e-bay so I thought I might have a try, didn't go into the finer points when I had the chance.

Re: Home printing panoramas

Epson used to make a panoramic photo paper which was 210mm x 594mm (Ref: SO41145)

I've had no problems using that paper on an Epson 830u printer.

Re: Home printing panoramas

I used to have an Epson which printed on rolls of photo paper - a few years ago now but it worked rather well, albeit the rolls were very narrow

Re: Home printing panoramas

I have an A3 Epson R2400 printer and I can print two panos one one sheet of A3+ paper. I can get two panos of 18.5"x 5.5" with a half inch gap in between. This is the only way unless you have roll paper or get it done commercially. The printer does take rolls but I have never used it.
