How did your first print come out?

My first scan and print happened at the same time when I set up a work station at home to restore some old photo's. On a test run I scanned my first negetive on an epson flatbed from photoshop (elements one). Scan opened in PS and I cleaned it up some. Then went to print with preview, didn't know what I was looking at and hit print. It rev'ed up and started to spit out 8.5 by 11 size pages,,after the sixth one I realized what was going on. I didn't know how to stop it and it printed out 24 pages. I turned them over and taped them to gether and had the biggest print I've still ever done.

What and how did your first scan or print come out ?

Re: How did your first print come out?

Printing is a sorcerer's art and calibration is the work of the devil My first print was a digital image and printed on an Epson Stylus something or other. The quality of the print was more down to the poor quality of the camera but I do remember that the Epsons at that time (circa 2000) were good for results but awful for maintenance.

If you didn't use the printer regularly the print heads clogged up and required copious cleaning to start again. In the end I chucked it out and, like a fool, bought another Epson. Same problem so I bought a Canon which you could just buy a new print head if necessary and I've been with them ever since.

Re: How did your first print come out?

After printing my master piece I read up on the traffic flow of the color profile thru the picture on the screen to the printer and started to come out with some pretty good prints and have had only "this printer needs more ink" problems. I will remember very fondly the big poster size picture of me rakeing leaves out side next to a giant pumkin bag to fill the leaves in. To me, the fun side of life is to remember how we have gotten here. Believe me, I have walked thru my share of wet paint leaveing a trail by starting a book about me or whatever for my grandkids. I have to write down the stories quick because I will forget them if not. Thank goodness for camera's and the glorified image it will leave. My wife takes those.

Re: How did your first print come out?

Scanned the tranny in it looked ok, hit the button and the best ever A4 colour picture came out of my epson printer, that day my darkroom became redundant! I never produced another chemical print..........

Re: How did your first print come out?

I assume that we are only talking about digital prints as my first print was in a darkroom over 35 years ago. Even my first digital print was back in 1997 so I cannot remember much about it. I do recall at that time I had nothing calibrated and used a Canon Photoprinter but the quality was fairly poor. I had to produce test prints rather like I did in the darkroom for colour printing to achieve a neutral tone. Despite the quality being clearly inferior to commercial and darkroom prints I continued to do well in Club competitions. This was largely because digital sourced images were a novelty so you could blatently edit and judges were happy because your images were different. The advantages of editing outweighed the poorer print quality. This period did not last long and judges started to dislike the use of filters and poor quality prints which by 2000 forced me to buy an Epson printer.

It is rather easy now having everything calibrated so I can print right first time using my own printer or using ProAm.

Re: How did your first print come out?

My first print no longer exists, as it was a calibration piece for the screen-printer settings....

I "matched" the screen to the printer output, so I get a "Wysiwyg" result....

The first real photographs I produced on this printer were ones of our wedding, and they still exist...
I am very happy with the results.

Scan-and-print...
I tried scanning old photographs to produce a "Backup", but have never been too happy with the results.
