How Do You Transfer Your Photos

JUST WONDERED HOW MOST PEOPLE TRANSFER THEIR PHOTOS TO THEIR COMPUTER.
I HAVE ALWAYS DONE MINE WITH USB FROM MY CAMERA TO COMPUTER.

IS THIS THE BEST WAY, OR WHICH WAY IS BEST ?

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

Don't use the USB to camera as I've always been told it's a weak link and easily damaged. I use a card reader.

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

I've always used a card reader. They used to be faster, but that might not apply now. My new-ish desktop does not have a floppy slot, but has a built-in multi-format card reader instead, but I've still got two card readers attached too.

most readers are now plug 'n' play, but don't know if Macs do this.

I like being independent of the camera - one less item to have on the desk.

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

Same here - card reader. No need to switch the camera on or find the USB lead.

P.S. Card readers should PnP on all operating systems. (Yes, even Linux. )

7dayshop.com - Online Store

Plug it into your Mac's USB port, insert the memory card and it should show up as another drive. You can then select the photo files on the card and copy them to whatever folder you like on your hard drive.

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

I use the camera with USB but mainly because i am lazy and Canon EOS utility will automatically place the pics into date order labelled folders. Would use my card reader otherwise because of the reasons people have metioned above. Always open to ideas for getting round this.

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

Steve

The average USB card reader is about a tenner, for a built in one where a floppy drive should go about £6

How much to replace the mini USB port on your camera if it breaks ? a pretty penny I would imagine.

I tend to bung one of these

In any PC I build now because so few people use Floppy disks now

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

I plug the camera straight into the PC, 'cos I'm too lazy to move the SD card between the two Must admit I do waste battery power 'cos I usually forget to unplug + turn the camera off straight away

The reason I like this way is that when I turn the camera on I get a window popping up with the choice of app to download the photo's. I just click on Picture Project, then after another couple of clicks my photo's are exactly where I want them to be. I like Picture Project because it renames the photo's the way I like, and I like the filing system it uses on the pc; no other app does it this way (including LR + CS3).

Re: How Do You Transfer Your Photos

Charlotte

I've seen the results of some people plugging and unplugging full size USB cables and it's scary.

Micro USB connectors by virtue of size are more fragile than their full size counterparts. I know of people who have tried to ram the plug in back wards and succeeded only to find they have trashed the micro USB.

I would concur that not everyone is a dill and will do the same.

A lot of people will have seen threads on people who have wrecked CF sockets in camera's. Why did they wreck the socket in most cases. Well I put it down to trying to put the card in sideways whilst taking no real regard to their camera. Most Virgin trains contain 2 CF card readers, luckily they are not part of the train or connected with safety equipment because the results of carelessness are a sight to behold
