How to get quality prints???

Hi all,

Just wondering what printing service people use for their photo's?? (Those of you who don't print at home that is...) I have used photobox and snapfish in the past, both of which have given excellent results. I am looking to get a portfolio together of some of my better shots, so wouldn't mind paying a bit extra if I felt the extra quality of the print warranted it...

Any advice????

Thanks,

Matt

I think Snapfish got a 'best buy' in which? last year, but I don't remember what criteria they were using.

Note though, that unless you profile your ouptut to their printers you can't be guarenteed the results you see on your screen. Therefore if you want the best prints, you need to find a service that can provide you the relevant info for you to amend your shots accordingly.

Yes Dave, this had me wondering.I cannot get whats on screen onto paper.I think its a combination of badly calibrated monitor and older/seldom used printer[Epson 870].I do not do many A4 size prints so getting them done outside seemed a good idea, the alternative being a 'Huey' type thing and new printer [expensive!!].What outlets offer the type of service you mention and is it complicated to do?.

I had thought of visiting a local place with a CD with a couple of images and asking to see what they looked like on their screen and finding a 'solution'

Re: How to get quality prints???

The service I used (see review above) provides a profile & instructions how to apply . Pretty straight forward & results have been very good. As you state though, you need to get your monitor callibrated, as otherwise you're chasing your tail. I did mine by eye & found prints were just a tad darker than my screen version.

Re: How to get quality prints???

If you have a 'Costco' near you and you know a member, you can get 9x7 prints for 20p, 6x4 for 7p both with no minimum order while you wait. the time taken deoends on how busy they are, but usually is under an hour. Gives time to do some shopping while waiting.

They are probably not the absolute best in terms of quality, and you don't get a choice of paper, but they are not bad, and you can use them to see what a print looks like at that size and see if it is worth trying to get larger ones.

Costco also do 10x12 for about £1.90 and 12x14 for about £2.25.
