Not sure, seems to be asking how to tell if something bought cheaply without papers is an original manufacturers lens and not a fake?
Moral being if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Re: How to identify original nikon products in grey market

I think that rather than playing a lottery with your kit you would be better off buying good secondhand kit. I appreciate that where you are there are probably not many - or any - dealers with this sort of stock, but if your mail services are reliable you could go further away.

In the UK there are several dealers who have large used stocks. Grays of Westminster, MPB Photographic (who advertise on here), London Camera Exchange, Mifsuds and others. The items usually carry a warranty of six months, but Grays have a 12 month warranty. Then there are places like Pixalo where good deals can be obtained and finally e-bay. I think you are more likely to get a good deal on e-bay than by buying a grey import or refurbished lens of doubtful origin.

Re: How to identify original nikon products in grey market

I had tried the ebay wat, and other famous e-business sites of phtgr equip. like bhphotovideo.com, but the problen is in our country (India) there is a big confusion over customs duty on goods purchased from outside, normally if the vendor will sent the product the usual way, it will attract customs duty by as high as 40-50 % but to bypass this foreign vendors mentioned gifts in the shipment, and that comes without any documentation, in that way customers can avoid the customs duty but if the custom officer wants, he can still stall any shipment and then there will be nothing but harassment.

Re: How to identify original nikon products in grey market

That does sound bad! Do you have any opportunity to travel and purchase the kit outside India? Would you still have the customs issues if you had the goods in your camera bag?
