Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I prefer genuine ink - but I also prefer Canons prices, that why I went and bought a Canon IP5200 last time my HP ran out
![]() Use PhotoBox.co.uk for large numbers of prints and large formats - but for one offs and test prints, or prints for family occasions I print my own. |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I can't believe the figures in that Hp report at all. I use only Jet Tec with Gallerie paper & have been for the last 3 years. So according to Hp All my prints should have faded to nothing by now. "Well they ain't so there"

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
Not really paid much attention - a guestimate would be atleast 80+ full page prints, and even then only the dominant colour used to print would be exhausted. Also always use the highest quality setting.
TBH compared to my HP it seems to go on forever (not that the HP was really a photo printer). |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
Cheers Glyn. A few years back I bought a Canon S95? (something like that) for Photo Printing, but never refilled cartridges when it cost £60 for the lot
Ended up binning printer when I moved house. |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I use genuine Epson cartridges for my printer but, if I have any major printing to do then I do it at work, plus, as I work from home one day a month, my bosses see fit to pay for the cartridges for me!!
I've only used compatible ink once, when I had an HP, but I was so disappointed with the results, even just printing documents, that I never used them again. |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
Some years ago, Which? tested third party inks and refills, and found that they were prone to fade prematurely. (does not make you a bad person). As a result, I've always stuck to original inks, but am now looking to order from the net to reduce costs.
I also bought a Canon printer as they have always in recent times got good results across the board in the Which? tests, with the 'do it all' printers scoring really well in printing photos. They are, if not the most economic, in the top flight for economy of ink too. |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
Use both, tho' having an Epson I'm wary of 3rd party - Epson use nozzles on printer, whereas with others they're on ink cartridge

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I use a Canon printer and up until recently used original inks too. The quality was always excellent but like many I thought I would try some cheaper alternatives. Since I have my important and larger prints done at professional printers all I use my home printer for are the smaller shots that I display at home, these are usually short lived and changed on a regular basis so their longevity is not vital to me.
If I was printing important stuff that I was worried about fading in years to come I would certainly stick with original manufacturers inks but in certain circumstances, third party inks make much more sense. |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I have a cheap epson (R200) which I use cheap inks with. The quality is acceptable for home use but no good for anything more.
I also have a HP (photosmart 8750) which I only use genuine inks with. It's a system I find works well if you have the space. |

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I use genuine inks for my Epson R340 and they last for along time. You have to shop about as prices vary alot, the printer takes six cartridges and i buy them in a pack which brings the price down even more works out around £5.50 a cartridge. Another point to realise is that if you use non branded inks you invalidate the warranty on your printer, how they would know if your printer broke that you had been using non-branded inks i have no idea but its clearly stated on the warranty info!!

Re: How many people use Genuine Printer Ink vs Compatible
I use photobox for images that are important those that arn't so I use a Canon ip4000 the printer has done me pround had it for about 1 1/2 years now and apart from the supplied ink it has been running on 3rd party ink from BRITINK is a registered trademark of Roger Needham and Sons Ltd. or co.uk these people have won awards for there ink and it has been said that the colours are as good as the printer manufacturers I have to agree the differences are minimal. I dont know if i should comment canon or britink but the printer (Touch wood) has not needed a clean in the time i've had it even when nothing has been printed for a month or more and the cartridges always come out so very close to empty that I have to say there is no ink wastage.
I will stick to britink and somthing really bad would have to happen to stop me buying another Canon. for Canon |
