How/where to find models?

I am currently boosting my portfolio taking pictures of my friends kids but I really want to get some shots of adults for my portfolio. Can anyone let me know how I can find models for this kind of thing and what it would cost me? I am based in notts and currently have a home studio but would probably try to hire somewhere for this sort of shoot. Thanks

web-models.co.uk .

Alternatively if you are not after professional models, why not ask the neighbours, friends, family, work etc, in return for a nice print. If you show them your best shots to date, they should bite your hand off.

These were all of work colleagues of one of the photographers in the local Camera Club :-

Re: How/where to find models?

How about going to visit your local amateur theatrical group to see if any of them want something for their portfolios?

You get their time for nowt and they get some photos (if they are any good )

Re: How/where to find models?

Dabhands suggestion is a good one. At my Camera Club we had an arrangement with a local amateur theatre group. They would turn up at our local studio group session and we would take any shots we wanted. We would also ensure we included any specific shots they needed for their publicity brochures and posters. They also paid a nominal donation which more than covered the cost of hiring the room. Both parties gained from this arrangement.

Re: How/where to find models?

Other web sites
purestorm.com (A lot like Model mayhem but without so much of the facebook thing) and more UK based.
net-model.com (Astonishingly a lot like web-model but no partner phtographer site)

I got a surprising result when I was looking to shoot butchers, fishmongers etc. I just got some postcards made up offering some free promotional shots for a release for stock and stuck them through doors as I went around. I know it's not studio type work but it still goes in a portfoio.

Re: How/where to find models?

Though I'm a model, I did try photography for a while.
After trying the different communities / sites out there , I must say I found fotoshoot.com really helpful.

Good luck!

Re: How/where to find models?

Like vinny mentioned, Purestorm are pretty good and a fair few models on there will do time for prints or TFP.

Re: How/where to find models?

Im a member at Purestom and Model Mayhem. You can find models local to you on both, but the majority will require payment. The hourly rate depends on where you live and what level you want the model to go to. Have a look on Purestorm, its all pretty obvious really. I reckon 25 per hour is about average, but I have seen some asking for 50 - 60 per hour, depending on what you want them to do.
You may be lucky and find one or two asking for TFP/CD, if you do get in quick!
Good luck
