Hypothetical Question

You have been taking some nude self portraits and sending them to Doris down the pub. The Mrs finds out, and in a major disaster, throws all your equipment down an imaginary mine shaft in the garden as punishment, never to be seen again. All you have in the world is £2000 for new kit. The only thing you are interested in photographing is landscapes, what equipment would you buy, and why?

Re: Hypothetical Question

My wife has already made it clear that nude photography is not allowed so I will not risk my camera by doing so. If for any reason she threw my kit down this mineshaft, I would claim on the insurance. Apart from that £2,000 would not be anywhere near enough to replace my kit. I see the question as what would I buy if I started again and the answer is simple, exactly what I have now; 5D2 plus three lenses.

Re: Hypothetical Question

1. I have the mineshaft in the garden but no wife!
2. OH would probably laugh hysterically and recommend a good counselling service to Doris!

If I was going to only go for landscapes I'd buy what I have now, a Sigma SD14 and Sigma 17-35mm EX. Not everyone's cup of tea but turns in images with a wonderful quality not obtainable with any of my Canon gear. As you can pick up these for under a grand I'd spend some of the rest on a Sigma grip, a Benbo Trekker tripod, a Tamrac Expedition 7 backpack, a few filters and still have a little over to help pay for Doris' treatments!

Re: Hypothetical Question

£2000 would only replace my D300 and the 17-55 f2.8.

But if I only wanted to do landscapes that would do the job.

My wife is irreplaceable. I could always borrow her Canon4ooD and just make sure I wiped the card after I had sent the pics to Doris

Re: Hypothetical Question

I suppose a D700 body and a 50mm f1.4 would also fit the bill.

Re: Hypothetical Question

Never going to happen. My wife would just laugh hysterically and offer to pay Doris to take me away.
