Question InfraRed Digital

I'm looking for advice on improving my infrared digital images.

Now I've got my new camera I'm looking to get my 10D converted to infrared. I'd like some suggestions on where to send it. I've looked at some and there also seems to be different filter options on conversion, what's the best ?

Also I have a Cokin InfraRed filter which I use (and will do for now) on unmodified camera. I've read a bit about setting a custom white balance to get rid on the red casting. Can I ask when this is done and how ? I always shoot in RAW, so does it matter if I don't do it in camera ?

Lastly I use a Canon 17-40mm L Lens and notice I get a weird halo effect when shooting at the wide end. Any ideas why ?

Re: InfraRed Digital

Hi Chrisa, I sent my camera to Lifepixel,,,so Dave is right on top of the info you need in the UK,,,I use the 17-40L and have had darn good success with it, so I would think that maybe your looking at something from a longer exposure maybe. I have very limited experence with a filter on the front, even though I have one,,,it works but I knew as soon as I could get a converted body I did..
I have also read where the best time to take the white balence with the front filter is,
Step one_focus with filter off,,manual
Step two_with filter on take white balace
Step three_shoot picture
Also, I thought long and hard about the filter, clear, R72 and the darker R82, I chose to lighter end of the infrared range 700nm to around 1200nm,, R72 for the 700 range because I wanted the light color, I get what I wanted and it looks great most of the time,,,you have to work out a method to control your light and then your OK.
