An inspiration - how does she do it!?

I came across this ladies website a while ago and find her to be a great inspiration. Her child portraits are in my opinion awesome and something I would absolutely love to be able to do. I'm sure some of you have heard of her or may even know her. My question is how does she get such good photos and colours so vibrant with only available light. Apparently all her work is in available light and with very little editing.
She is obviously extremely talented.
Anyone know of any other portrait photographers websites I could check out for inspiration?

Hi Rachel

Very good work. I would say a lot of shots are using reflectors to bounce the available light on to the subjects face. Take a look through the shots..... if it looks sunny & there are no / minimal shadows on the face, then it's definitely reflectors. You can try this yourself ... hold a large piece of white paper below someones chin to see how you can bounce the light.

Re: An inspiration - how does she do it!?

Well spotted Rachel, she certainly has a wonderful style Here are a few of the factors which I can see have affected the outcome of her gorgeous newborn portraits: Very plain, uncluttered backgrounds; some close crops; some very imaginitive BG's (e.g. baby on shelf LOL); keeping the number of colours in a shot to a mimimum, and a lot of use of white + neutral colours; no distracting clothing; short DoF with focus on sharp eyes. With the older kids, she has so obviously + successfully put them at their ease to capture such magical shots!

Thanks for sharing this great find Rachel, I've put that one in my Fave's to visit again, and I agree, it's a very inspirational website gallery

She is an exceptional photographer, and does have a good way with kids.
There was a lady over here called Fiona Alison who was as good if not better.
But look at her prices. Wow.

Re: An inspiration - how does she do it!?

Ahhh - it does it automatically - cute. Anyway - skip the clothes hype on the site and go to Anne tab (ladybird sitting over it) and then onto galleries.

Cheers.

Re: An inspiration - how does she do it!?

Thanks Dave and Charlotte, I knew you more experienced people would spot some techniques in there.
Will check out the other websites too - can do with all the inspiration I can get. I remember Anne Geddes from way back......but did love her style.
Anyway back to practising for me - I'm sure it would be easier to photograph other peoples children rather than your own, they may be more co-operative!!!
Cheers

Re: An inspiration - how does she do it!?

I had a look over Audrey Woulard's site and noted that she has a loft apartment with plenty of natural light as one of her studio locations.

Another hallmark of her shots is that she evidently uses large aperture lenses on what appears to be a full-frame dSLR... on account of the incredibly shallow depth of field on many of the portrait shots.

Pop in some generous sized reflectors and the occasional hint of fill flash and that covers the technical aspect; the rest is a work of skill and vision.
