Re: installing CS2

I changed my computer recently still keeping Windows Professional. I had Adobe CS and to transfer you have to phone Adobe and ask for another download. They will not give you a download unless you upgrade to CS4 and in my case they would not up grade CS as it was too old, can't answer for CS2 as to wheather they will up grade or not or if you have to purchase CS4 at full price. It is apparently not possible to transfer CS from one computer to another, hope this helps.

Re: installing CS2

Adobe states that CS2 is not compatible with Vista. If you don't want to upgrade CS2 then you will need to install XP. Since your mobo will be configured for Vista that in itself might not be easy.

Oh....and be wary of publicising that you use a key generator, particularly on Pixalo

Re: installing CS2

You could always go "Dual Boot"....
That is, partition off a part of the hard drive, and install XP on that......

There is always running a Virtual PC inside Vista, that will run XP programs, but, be warned, them virtual box'es dont always work with all software.....

"It said on the packet, needs XP, Vista, or better...... so I installed LINUX......."

Re: installing CS2

That does seem unlucky as CS3 was fine with Vista. After buying a new computer, I am sure that you did not want to spend additional funds on new software. However, there were some very significant improvements between CS2 and CS3 and a few more in CS4. The CS4 upgrade for Windows is currently £166.75 from Amazon so might be a good option for you.

I have to say that I am puzzled though because I installed my older Photoshop CS just before installing the CS3 upgrade (having transferred from another computer) on my then new Vista computer. I actally only removed the CS version when I installed a CS4 Extended version so I currently have CS3 and CS4. Has Adobe indicated that CS2 will not install and run on Vista? It would appear that others on the Adobe Forums have successfully installed CS2 on Vista with only minor problems (no on-line help). I suggest you look at the Adobe Forums or contact Adobe before giving up on CS2.

Re: installing CS2

CS2 has never officially run under Vista but will do so with some fairly minor bugs - so no idea why it won't install? Where does it get and what happens?

Personally, I'd go "back" to XP as it's a much more reliable O/S - and upgrade to Win7 the other side of October (which'll be all Vista should've been). There shouldn't be any issues with your mobo (never have heard of a specific O/S dependant mobo - but I'm sure someone's probably manufactured one, to their detriment if it's Vista only!)

It's not that it's O/S dependent it's just that when a PC is shipped with Vista pre-installed then, very often, trying to re-install XP can be difficult driver-wise.

Never found that to be the case (or heard of it). It's Vista that's had the driver scarcity/problems not XP - I've certainly found plenty of peripherals/components that just plain don't have a Vista driver but not one that didn't have an XP driver (98 is dropping off the driver list for new peripherals/components but most definitely not XP). On any new installation/system my first task is to get the latest drivers (off t'internet) and not rely on supplied/installed as they're usually old (and quite often buggy if it's new in the marketplace)

However, I do think that it won't be too long before new drivers will only be available for Win7 (so probably Vista) - but not because it's the 'new kid on the block' but because 64bit implementations will become the norm (and 64bit XP has never been a rip-roaring success!). It'll only affect a few items as there's not much in the way of peripherals/components that'll demand 64bit (I'm guessing games graphics will be a forerunner, so graphics cards)

Re: installing CS2

I think there was an issue with CS2 and Vista basic but not the other versions of Vista.

If I remember correctly the information is on Adobe's website. (but you've probably gathered that by now as I've just noticed your post is a few weeks old.)
