Insurance part 2

I'm doing a couple of wedding photo shoots and videos next year (possibly get some sooner than that), and I was wondering about insurance, to cover things such as:

1. Me not being able to do the job through theft/damage to equipment, faults, personal injury/ill health and consequently getting sued for not doing the job.

2. People being injured through, say, falling over an unattended tripod and suing me for that.

It might sound a bit daft/extreme, but with 'compensation culture' being what it is and people would rather blame somebody else because THEY weren't watching where they were going, I don't think I'd be happy doing the job knowing I wasn't completely covered.

What sort of insurance do I need to be looking at? Public liability? Indemnity?? My googling has not turned up many definitive answers.

I would have thought "public liability" sounds about right

Public Liability basically insures you from the stupidity of the public. To put it a nice way.

Another way to put it would be that it insures you for any mishaps that happen to the public while they are in your work area.
Now if you work in an office, then this would be cut and dry, if a member of the public nuts the carpet in your office because of his two left feet, then you're insured.
With you being out and about I'm not sure how stretched this analogy can go, but I would assume that it still covers you the same, publics stupidity around you, wherever you may be roaming.

It's like any other business. For you damaging something or somebody you need Public Liability.

For you making a mess of it you need Professional Indemnity. Expect to have to submit a CV detailing your experience and qualifications and check carefully exactly what's covered.

Professional indemnity "Might" include sickness, if it doesn't then you're probably looking at some sort of critical illness policy or Key Person coverage.

Our business isn't photography related but we pay a small fortune in insurance premiums for this sort of stuff

Much the same for me too, on top of "public liability" if you have staff there is also "employers liability" too.
