Question IR questions

Been playing around a bit with different settings etc but no further forward than a week ago must have struck it lucky with me Dark Hedges shot, couple of questions yous could maybe help me out with if yous can,
1.WB is it better set in camera as a pre-set, use Auto or change it in processing?
2.If setting WB as a pre-set in camera should you do it with or without the filter on?
3.Sorry may-be 3, when shooting with the filter on can you also use a polarizer as well? Cheers guys.

Re: IR questions

IR works differently for me, especially as I take mainly IR+visible shots (make camera IR sensitive but don't filter out visible light)

I partially set it in-camera but mainly through PP

With filter attached

I do but then I get saturated blues from the visible side of the light (not sure what the mix of polariser and IR would do)

Re: IR questions

Hi Shane, I have an older camera I can take IR shots with. It still has the cut filter and only shoots visible light. I would put my IR filter "72" on the front, put my expo disc over that and take a custom white balance shooting straight at the sun. When processing, if I liked the result I would just leave it in the camera and switch to it when shooting IR and use auto or a preset for color. You can take different white balance settings this way during the day with different light and get a little change in the way your camera works concerning white balance. I have a setting I like that gives a rendishion tone of the sky I like so I have left it that way. You might try setting something to use for a giant white card and shoot a picture of reflected sun light off that and use, or what is pretty common, shoot a picture of real green grass and use that as a custom white balance. Using these methods I never get a picture with any red color casts.
