Key Words - who uses them?
Ok - up to now I have tried to keep up to date with keywording the metadata of my photos. It's a right royal pain to do as I tend to have about three dozen keywords. Well, I've just thought I'd better keyword my shots from Dubrovnik last week and blow me I can't really be a***d
It's not often I use them as a search option since my folders and files are pretty well named. I really feel like not bothering - can anyone convince me otherwise? |

Re: Key Words - who uses them?
I'm not going to speak for or against keywording Stephen.
I guess most of us use a similar folder based system, but I think that keywording is more useful to those with thousands upon thousands of images and might want to pull together a selection of images with no regard of date taken, location or any other reference to a folder type system. For instance, 'Christmas' as a keyword will produce images of any age, location, people and still life - a mix of everything that Christms means. If you want to illustrate this theme, it must be quicker than ploughing through umpteen folders called Christmas taken over the years. Presuming the keywords have been used in the right way to get what you want from a search. Of course, if you don't find yourself doing this type of search it is a waste of time. Perhaps the Lightroom ability to save metadata and keywords in templates would take the tedium out of tagging the images?

Re: Key Words - who uses them?
never use em, each of my folders is named for where and when so i know where to find most things. except from my older pics which are for the most part on disk

Re: Key Words - who uses them?
I used to use Cumulus 2 to store keywords etc. but gradually stopped bothering. One reason is that I hardly ever search via a key word because it meant running Cumulus 2. I convinced myself that I would use Adobe Bridge to do this so waited until I updated to CS3 which I did a few weeks ago. So I will give it a go as it is fairly easy to use but whether it is worth it will remain to be seen. I store original Photos by date so it is usually fairly easy to find shots by date. I don't think I have fully convinced myself so it is unlikley that I have convinced you.

Re: Key Words - who uses them?
Have a selection of different folders to what each image goes into & when full copied to cd. Dont like things to comp, you can only do 1 speed using 1 finger on a key board.
