Re: Knowlsley Safari Park Info

I keep being threatened with being dragged off here - will ask her who knows what the environmental considerations are, but got this from their site

Quote:
There are signs at the entrance to the Monkey Jungle warning visitors not to feed the monkeys and to keep car doors locked and windows closed, and it is very important that you do this. Baboons are intelligent animals who will climb into cars if encouraged, and could cause damage or injury once inside.

Visitors who do not wish to take their cars into the Monkey Jungle can now take advantage of our new 'Car Friendly' viewing route around the outside of the enclosure.
But there's plenty more info at Knowsley Safari Park

Re: Knowlsley Safari Park Info

Ray,

Whilst driving round the park you have to stay in your car. Also in some of the enclosures you have to close all windows, and in the monkey enclosure you have to lock your doors as well, otherwise you may end up with one or two extra passengers.

If the lions are being freindly they will come right up to your car.

You are allowed to park up on the roads, which gives opportunities to photograph the animals, but you cannot get out of the vehicle.

Also, you can drive round the park as many times as you like.

Ray,

A 70-300mm lens is perfect for that. I got a membership from knowsley safaripark. You do need to stay in your car. Altough there are plenty animals outside the safari.

But what about Martin Mere I think that is ideal for a meet And you can just bring your camera in without asking. It is big enough and plenty different birds too.

You mean the link to that animal park in South Lakes. That does look good yes.

I'm a bit fed up with Knowsley at the moment.

Re: Knowlsley Safari Park Info

We used to have a Golf and the sunroof jammed with a small gap at one side. As a temporary fix the garage stuck black sticky stuff (don't know what it is called but think black plasticene that stays slightly sticky to the touch) all the way around the sunroof as a weather seal.

My wife took my son to Knowsley Safari Park where the monkeys stripped the black stuff off the roof and (reportedly) ate it! They also had a go at the wiper blades as I recall.

No way you would get me out of the car

Martin Mere is a nice place but I guess it would be tripods and long lenses.

Re: Knowlsley Safari Park Info

No you don't need long lenses especially to get good photo's. And you could do without a tripod as well. The birds are very close by. And some of them even eat out of your hand, which was quiet good.

I get to Martin Mere most years but in the winter when there are lots of swans etc. about. The problem with the birds on the small lakes is that they nearly all have their wings clipped to stop them flying and it is very difficult to get a good picture of them that hides that.
What about Chester zoo or are people against zoos ?
