large group picture

Can an area that is approx. 12' wide 8' high, and 24' deep enable us to take a picure of a family? There will be 11 adults and 8 children, the youngest being 3yrs. old. We have an in home studio.

Re: large group picture

I would think that you maight struggle to fit 19 people in there and have theme looking comfortable in the shot. You may get away with it if your orgonise them into rows and layers, smallest at the front through to tallest at the back with some of the smallest children being perched on the knees or in the arms of other family members.

My only other advice would be that if your post processing skills are up to the task and you have a plain enough background you may be able to make use of the maximum space and position the group right up to the edges and then fill in any stray background clutter afterwards. Again this is also dependant on your lighting setup too as if thats not set to correctly lite the group then you will get fall of at the edges.

Hope that helps a little.

Re: large group picture

It's a bit tight but it can be done.

I'd go for 6 adults standing in the back row, 3 on the left side facing slightly in, same on the right. This helps to make the photo look more binding, as well as taking up less space. 5 adults seated, perhaps a child on either side of this middle row. Then 5 children in the front row seated on the floor/small bench and perhaps the 3 year old on someones lap in the middle row.

Something like this;

Back = /// \\\
Middle= /xxxxx\
Front = xxxxx

We're going to give it a try. We are working on a plan B also, just in case. Thanks for the great advice. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: large group picture

this may not even be an option for you (being a full on family photo)...what about having the kids in a separate shot to the adults?
