Re: Leica D5 Or Similiar Review Wanted

Hi - sorry to hear about your illness but good to see you around again I can't comment on the leica other than the build quality must be unquestionable. I have streamlined my kit recently owing to operations for a detached retina and bought a Finepix HS20EXR as a walkabout all-in-one. It suits my needs and is worth considering.

Re: Leica D5 Or Similiar Review Wanted

Before you buy the Leica check out the identical Panasonic LX 5 that is cheaper. The Leica is - AFAIK - a re-badged Panasonic.

JAG used to have an LX 5 and many of his pictures were taken with it.

Re: Leica D5 Or Similiar Review Wanted

Panasonicís Lumix DMC-LX5 replaces the LX3 as the ultimate enthusiast compact, but at around £400 itís not cheap. If the LX5ís excellent high ISO performance, great video mode and versatile 24-90mm lens sound attractive, itís the best compact in town

Sounds good Graham, i am looking for something with great optics, fast lens and i would consider other makes, if the Reviews are there then i would look at Cannon, and other models, all the better if someone in the forum uses one, I don't want to stop taking Pictures because of My health took a little dip, i have just found myself leaving my Kit in the house, not being bothered because of the Bulky bag, you end up taking a full kit out, and all i'm after is those close up shots that you see through your eyes, and say " If Only I Would Have Had My Camera, And Thats Why I,m Going For, Handy Compact With Quality"
Review On LX5:

Re: Leica D5 Or Similiar Review Wanted

The one thing that would put me off is the lack of a viewfinder. Recently there has been some new compact models released that do have a viewfinder, but the latest bridge cameras might also be worth consideration as Stephen said. They are not as small as a compact, but they will be closer to a dSLR but without the need to carry anything other than the camera.

There are others available too including Panasonic, Nikon, Canon etc.

These compacts have a VF

The NEW Fujifilm X10 premium compact camera sets new standards in style and quality for digital photography | Fujifilm United Kingdom

Some other high end compacts to consider

Also the Ricoh GR and GXR

YOU HAVE MADE A VERY GOOD CHOICE WITH THE G10. I HAVE HAD A G10, FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS NOW, IT IS AN EXCELLENT CAMERA, I EVEN TEND TO USE MORE THAN MY 7D.

Thank You Woody, I got a very nice guy at the Exchange, great sdvice, no pressure
selling, it seems to pack a punch, i really fancy the compact, because my Camera is always with me, but i'm affraid i have not been using my Nikon, My 55~200 lens was having probs focusing, its a mint con lens, just started playing up at full zoom
so its there in my kit bag, after phoning Nikon and getting 60 secs into my conversation, You might as'well throw it in the Bin. i have just sent there customer relations people a nice long e-mail letting them know what i thought to the guys answer, and also explaining how much damage a few words can be, especially when your a member of two excellent sites with over 1 million people who use, buy cameras, and how much effect is comments have had on me and the Nikon Brand.

will let you know how i get on with them, if i get no where i shall photograph it hitting the ground from a block of flats...and get it printed poster size...smash.lol

Re: Leica D5 Or Similiar Review Wanted

Well Thanks for support and input, just one last word on the Compact Camera, Has you have read i have purchased a mint Canon G10, and after closing tonight i found a Review that surprised me, and I'm really looking forward to going around Snowdon using my compact maybe just after Christmas.

Article i found was as follows.

I had become very impressed with the Canon G10 after just a few days of earlier light-duty testing. Each evening that week I would sit with my 15" Macbook Pro reviewing the day's files. At one point I found myself looking at raw files on-screen and not being sure if I was looking at Hasselblad P45+ files or Canon G10 files. That includes at 100% onscreen enlargements.

Now, I'm no newbe. After some 50 years in this industry I know what I'm looking at, be it a screen blow-up or a print, and I certainly don't confuse how something looks on a 15" laptop screen (though properly profiled and calibrated) with how it will turn out on a critically produced exhibition-quality print. But nevertheless, I was curious about what I was seeing. In fact I was more than curious, I was somewhat amazed.
In the interest of Photography i hope you don't mind the link for the full article
i was amazed at what i was reading. Article Read " You've Got to be Kidding!"
Follow Link, Article on Canon G10 V Hasselblad H2 and Phase One P45+ back.
