Re: Lens hire
thanks,
not sure dave, never done sports yet, being a newbie i am just having a dabble at a few different genres to get a taste so to speak. the only good lens a have is the 17-40L so thinking of hiring 70-200 2.8 IS or 100-400L IS, might try an extender with the 70-200, with the womens open being round the corner from where i live i thought it would be a good event to go to. any ideas on a couple of lenses that would be good for golf(with IS as the drinkers trembles are bad at the mo!! lol) |

Re: Lens hire
With the distance you see the crowd from the golfers I would have thought the 10-400L IS was a must.
If you didn't need IS then the Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 would have given you some extra speed with the lens, which might be more important if light conditions are poor & you want to catch the swing of the golfer. |

Re: Lens hire
Asd - I've had the 100-400 at the top of my wishlist for a while. I'd be interested in your views if you try that one. Which ever one(s) you do try pop a review in the Equipment Reviews if you get chance.

Re: Lens hire
will do Stepheno, had a quick 2 minute go in camera shop in las vegas a couple of months ago with a 20D and the 100-400 IS on, didnt have my flashcard with me so didnt get to see the results, but it felt really nice in the hand and it even looked sharper on the LCD than the other lenses a tried, have emailed fixation to ask whether they can send hire lenses via post/courier.
Somebody has told me to get a press pass, if you dont and try to use the pics commercially from the event they can sue, is there some truth to this or are they billy bulls**ting?, not that im saying the shots i take will be good enough to sell,...but.... |

Re: Lens hire
Lens hire caveat for Fixation:
If you've never hired from them before, they require you to lodge a deposit equalling the retail value of the lens (or other kit) with them... so if you fancy hiring a nice 100-400mm L, then you better have the rental fee plus another £1000 free space on your credit card. Also the fees exclude VAT and the 10% hire insurance premium. If you don't mind renting Sigma lenses instead, try Hireacamera.com - much better prices and hire terms. |
