Has anyone done any library displays/exhibitions of thier work?

And can you give me any tips? I am popping along to our library next week to see the space and have a chat with them. But having never done one before could do with some pointers.

Re: Library Displays

You're doing exactly the right thing by going to check out the space and have a chat about what they're thinking about. Remember to check basic things like the quality of the wall and how it's possible to mount stuff to it.

I've never exhibited my own work, but I've helped my brother set up his work a few times in exhibition spaces.

It depends on the space, but make sure you display an appropriate number and variety of images. Don't crowd the space and likewise don't leave it tidy-but-empty. Also, don't try too hard to fill the space and make some of your pics hard to view properly - you don't want to force people to crouch down to see details if you can avoid it.
You might find some plain mountboard useful as you could prepare the pics beforehand with captions and have them ready to attach to the wall - if they have frequent exhibitions they might use those display boards which you can use with velcro tape, for instance.

I think it looks more professional to use printed captions/labels next to each image (consistent placement looks better) with the name of the piece and maybe a location, date, event or other detail to put it in context.

If it's OK with the library, have a stack of business cards or leaflets with your email or contact details somewhere obvious if not attached to the wall near your pics. That way people who might want to buy a print or whatever can get in touch with you. Buyers like to know a little bit about the photographer, so perhaps have a small panel near the photos with a brief (one or two paragraphs) intro/bio - doesn't need to give much away but you should try to identify your favourite techniques or subjects and sources of inspiration, that type of thing.

I hope some of the above ramble is useful.
