Lightroom. Save for Pixalo.

After downloading the 30 day trial of the leased photoshop packages. I am looking at a 6 month subscripton. As a Christmas prez.

Is there a link or tutorial how to create
Correct sized photos for here. I have been using viewnx2 but
After downloading Lightroom found it an Easier and more intuitive bit
Of software. but when saving, not sure what to set up for here.

Re: Lightroom. Save for Pixalo.

It is actually easier than you think. Just open the export dialogue and you will see several things that you can apply to your images. Some of the sections you will not have to use. You will see these as you work through.

When you have set the parameters in the sections that you want you have the option to save those settings as a pre-set that will appear in the list of pre-sets so that next time you export those settings can be applied simply by clicking on the name that you have given those settings.

For instance you can set the longest side, the file size, colour space, sharpening, specify the folder that they get exported to and more. Take a look at it and I'm sure that you won't need a tutorial.

I have two Pixalo Export pre-sets, one for landscape - 1024 pixels long side 285kb (now can be up to 600kb) file size, sRGB colour space, standard sharpening. The portrait pre set has the long side at 900 pixels and all other settings the same.

I've moved this thread to the General Photography Q&A as the Manipulation forum is primarily intended to show manipulated images

Re: Lightroom. Save for Pixalo.

I do it slightly differently. I don't have any export pre-sets. I just set the file type to JPEG and set the file dimensions to 1000 x 1000. That way the longest side of the image will always be 1000 pixels regardless of whether the image is in landscape or portrait orientation.

Whatever parameters you set in the export dialogue box Lightroom will remember them.

Forgot to mention that bit John I also export full sized 16bit tiffs for further work in Photoshop, and other sizes for other uses so for me the pre-sets are handy.

Re: Lightroom. Save for Pixalo.

There again my workflow is slightly different to yours Graham. After I have edited the RAW file in Lightroom I right-click on the image and select “Edit in Photoshop”. This will open a TIFF file in Photoshop. Then after further editing in Photoshop I will click on save, this will then put the finished TIFF file back into Lightroom stacked with the original RAW file.

I used to do this John, but encountered a problem when the file sent to PS did not have my LR adjustments! I started a thread here somewhere. It turned out (thanks to Dave Canon I think, or was it you?) that as I was using an older version of PS than LR that this was happening. No help on the Adobe forums, but lots of people with the same issue. At that time the only way I could get tiffs with LR tweaks was to export them. When I started (reluctantly) subscribing to Creative Cloud thus having the latest versions of both, the problem went away, but I find that doing the LR tweaks first and exporting in bulk is quicker when doing a lot of images. Or it seems quicker anyway, which maybe is as good. It also makes LR less busy as I only have the RAWs there. For some of my sets of pictures that I know I'll never want to print I'll make a folder of web jpgs and delete the tiff folder to save space.

I do it via an "Action" in Photoshop.

Re: Lightroom. Save for Pixalo.

If PS and LR are not compatible then LR has to render the file so that it can be opened in PS. A dialogue box should appear that gives you a couple of options, just click on “Render Using Lightroom”

Re: Lightroom. Save for Pixalo.

John is correct. When the version of LR is newer than the Raw converter in PS, then you are normally given a dialog box as John mentions/ You should select the one that uses LR changes. However, if you accidentally (or on purpose) tick the box that says "Do not show this message again", you will never see this dialog. This is what happened to me. However, all you need to do is to go to LR Preferences and select the General Tab. Then near the bottom there is a button marked "Reset All Warning Dialogs" just click. When you restart LR you should see the dialog box again and thus be able to edit in PS with LR changes.

It is true that this issue is no loner a problem with cc.

Dave
