Re: M42/D70

I've a few M42 lenses! By far my fav (and the best) is a Zenitar 16mm Fisheye (one of my more popuular shots below) but also a 400mm and a 70-300mm macro. All stuck on my Sigma cameras but they could be used with any camera with a suitable M42 adapter

Re: M42/D70

Well, any M42 lens will work - there's a mass of them on fleabay. Providing they have an exposure ring (which I think they all do have) then they'll work OK

Re: M42/D70

Nothing to stop you using an IR filter with an M42 - I'd use mine with my M42 except filter doesn't fit those lenses I've got (and my SD10 is now a dedicated IR + visible with the Zenitar as well as with a 72nm IR filter to produce IR only)

Re: M42/D70

Well there are lots of good M42 glass out there. Helios are great but even the Super Takumar ones are awesome as well.
Nikon is really NOT the system for M42 lenses as you don't get focus at infinity without an adapter that has a glass element in there, but I think you can get awesome pictures without it or still awesome picture with the glass element. It is stopped down and manual focusing, so you have to be used to that. Some folks have put in a different focusing screen to make it easier. My limited expereicencs with a few Carl Zeiss Jena lenses have yield some pretty RICH colours and wonderful DOF for very affordable prices.......not sure how well they do with BIG BOY LONG lenses.....but I am sure others on here can tell you.
