Re: Mark on mirror, help please?

If it is on the mirror it will not show on the pictures. Time to clean the sensor. There is at least one other dust bunny on the picture too - left of centre.

Re: Mark on mirror, help please?

Unlikely to be the mirror as the mirror is swung up out of the way when a picture is taken. This looks much more like a dirty sensor. If you are not confident to clean this delicate material yourself then you need to have a technician do it for you. Usual cost is about 30.

First step though is to use a blower as suggested by Fiz., facing the camera downwards and blowing up into the mirror chamber. Follow the instructions in the manual for your camera as to how you hold the mirror up to clean the sensor. There are instructions here for cleaning the sensor. It can be exasperating so you need to choose a moment when you are cool, calm and collected.

Under no circumstances touch either the mirror or the sensor with anything other than the correct cleaning material and following the correct instructions. As I said, any doubt, then get a professional to do it. It's cheaper than the sensor.

Hmmm I was I've afraid of this.

Whatever it is wasn't there a week ago.

Who do I go to get this done ( Telford/Shewsbury area), Jessops? i.e.that I know I can trust.

Calm and collected is rare round here but in essence it doesn't sound intrinsically complicated, unless I've missed something? I should have one go before shelling out dosh I guess.

Thanks.

Re: Mark on mirror, help please?

YOu guys agree with this? There is nothing in my manual about it.

I think I'll pass on the brush but it should be possible to give the mirror and sensor a good blow. The tripod idea looks good.

Re: Mark on mirror, help please?

For what it is worth, I wet clean my sensor about every 3 or 4 months.

This kit will get you started

Digital SLR Camera Sensor Cleaning Kit with Blower: Amazon.co.uk: Camera & Photo

This is the next step

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Came...s+cleaning+kit

Or you can get them direct from the maker

Digipad Cleaning Kit

This option seems cheaper, but postage might make a difference.

Oh my goodness some say don't touch it on your life..... rocket blower arrived* in the last few minutes, battery on charge+ I've found it (mirror up) in the manual.

I think it's worth getting it on the tripod and at least giving it a puff.

Any way the rocket blower has just arrived.

The wet cleaning concept feels a bit advanced at the moment. Thanks for ideas though.

*48 hours, not bad.

Re: Mark on mirror, help please?

I clean my sensors, and my son's sensor & have done since I went digital, it is a bit of a faff at first and you worry about damaging the sensor. I use a combination of blower, brush & if needed a wet clean. It just takes time & practice, but means that you don't have to be without your camera.
Just don't do what I did & get oil from the shutter on the brush you clean the sensor with, it leaves a dirty great streak of oil across it. Takes ages to clean that off Only ever done that once though

Re: Mark on mirror, help please?

I have cleaned the sensor on my 30D quite a few times and ditto for my OH's 400D (both wet clean). No qualms with that.

The 5D III is a different matter. I plan to get that done professionally as and when
