Re: Maybe weddings are the way to go

There is certainly money to be made, but is that the main reason why you're taking up photography as a career?

Wedding photography can be quite profitable but I imagine it can also become very boring and formulaic. Perhaps do a few, but personally I wouldn't want to take it up as a full-time job.

how could you ask such a question!

of course not, just thought it an interesting article, long as I can live 'comfy like' ill be happy

I'm not sure though, I love talking to people and being around people, can put up and deal with grumpy and stroppy people.. also bossing them about! (joke) so it might not be a bad way to spend a day.

That is the reason why you should always get insurance if you take on this sort of work.

Re: Maybe weddings are the way to go

Weddings are damn hard work... I do about 5 or 6 a year and easily clear £1000.00 profit but they really are not for the faint hearted.
If I did them full time I would probably only have to work 6 months of the year but they are very stressfull..... well for me anyway.

Re: Maybe weddings are the way to go

Wedding Photography Is The Most Stressful Occupation, anyone Could
Possibly Choose .

I Was Doing Weddings, In The Late 1970's Early 1980's.
On A Saturday I Was Covering Between Two - Three Weddings.

This Has Got To Be The Most Stressful Thing I Have Ever Done.
My Marriage Nearly Ended In Divorce, It Made Me Ill.

You Worry Continuously That Something Will Go Wrong, Or You Will Mess
Up Some How.

I Had To Give Up Photography Completely, As I Was Not Enjoying It Anymore.
It Was Rush Rush Rush.

Now I Just Enjoy It As A Hobby Again , No Stress.

Re: Maybe weddings are the way to go

My favourite place to stay in Amsterdam (which I don't mind plugging as it's just so nice!) is a B&B run by a couple of chaps who used to run their own business making wedding dresses.

I found this out because I asked one of the owners one morning why they kept doves in the hall and it was apparently part of the whole wedding thing. Anyway, they gave it up because of the stress of dealing with brides, their mothers, etc... and started up a B&B so they'd have less hassle.

I've only done one wedding as the proper photographer and only then for my mate's sister. It was a bit nerve wracking despite having planned well, knowing the bride's family very well and basically everything going to plan. I can see how it must be horrible if anything were to go wrong, though!
