Me, again....

Hi

Sorry to sound like Mr. I Want.

It was my Dads B'day to day and I was with my folks.

My sister had bought my Dad a rather nice photography book.

He was making the point that it took you through the various tools of adobe without flitting around from one page to another [ie it was easy to read and clearly laid out].

I wish my D200 manual was like that!

The thought occured to mei, IS there anything on the market that covers D200 usage WITHOUT saying "refer to page xy for this" "go to page ab for that"?

The D200 has been around fo sometime so...... thoughts anyone?

(It's Nikon obviously.)

Mnay thanks,

David

Ken Rockwell has a printable pdf D200 guide, you don't need to make a donation to download.

Re: Me, again....

If you have a tablet there is a Nikon app where you can download most of the Nikon camera manuals (and the flash ones too) and on the index pages there are page links that take you directly to the sections that you want to look at.

Re: Me, again....

Dabhand i found this app very useful and downloaded the D4 the sb900 and the sb700 manuals all for free the d4 manual itself is some 400 pages however i would say that nikon manuals arent the best thing they ever put together and are abit on the physical small size and arent very well edited. My ipad fits nicely into my camera bag so its quite useful

Re: Me, again....

Any instruction book can be quite hard to understand! sometimes its just as easy to play with the camera first, the problem I find with so many photographers is that they are new to Digital Photography and that they have never been involved with any other type of photography such as in the old days of film! how ever if you have a basic knowledge of photography most cameras work the same way, but the problem is that each programme can be named different that aplies to programmes on editing too, further problems arise in the instruction books when they name something and expect everybody to know what they are talking about, I must be honest I have never been a great reader of books and most of my book reading is done when traveling on long journeys, but now the laptop/tablet has taken over that......anyway back to the instruction book as well as the one supplied with the camera sometimes in PC World they have instruction books for most Nikons as well as other makes, because I had a credit for something from PC World I noticed a instruction book for my camera price 15.99 but there was a further 2 knocked off this price, I bought it and it made a better reading than my instruction book that came with the camera. You will find these books on special offer when the sales start very soon, I hope this helps you...Best Wishes...

will, um two lap tops do?

WE splashed on a note pad thing last week to put me onto windows 7 for my comp course

I would, actualy love an ipad but it's money .....(plus that it will be difficult to get past my folks now)

Is a tablet the way to go for intruction manuals then, more so that lap top?

Do I look for some thing on bay after xmas.......unwanted pressie etc etc?

Thanks for all the inputs.

Its all food for thought and the tablet idea sounds much easier to read than Nikon's pocket offering.

Re: Me, again....

I would not say that a tablet is essential, only mentioned it in case you had one. You might be able to download a manual onto your laptops but probably no more convenient than a paper manual TBH.

The inference is that a tablet is good for this sort of task?

A lap top maybe less so?

A tablet can act as an e-book reader like the Kindle, but the laptop will have to download a pdf file (if one exists) and you can search the pdf file or jump around by way of a menu system. There is a program called Calibre that you might like to check out, and this will give you access to books that are available in formats that Calibre can read but it is unlikely that the Nikon manual is available in an e-book format.
