Question Megapixels & ASA...

I have been asked the following question and I am not sure of the answer, so; I was wondering if anyone would be able to assist me, please?

==========

The question is:

Please explain a comparison of film and digital, i.e. megapixels vs film speed. Let's say what ASA would compare to 10 megapixels?

Perhaps a better way to ask this would be what megapixels would ASA200 be?

===========

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated...

Regards
Dean.

Re: Megapixels & ASA...

Megapixels... the number of dots per inch (DPI) in your photograph....
Film speed..... how fast your camera looks at the photo its taking....

I dont see the connection between the two....?...

I have only used film from a little plastic holder, very simple and dosen't take much education, just pop it in and push the button.
I can tell you the difference between film and sensor is the sensor never goes anywhere. I did read about Infrared film and it had to be changed in the dark or the light would travel from frame to frame like a flame of light. Color film you wouldn't need to worry as much.
Wouldn't you think that the size of film would, like medium format and large format for those cameras explain size verses megapixels being that more megapixels makes a bigger picture as does the film formats or using a film negitive enlarger at time of developement. Iso sensitivity for low light speed adjustments. verses seperate films. ?

I am so glad that I have digital. Hope this gives you something to think about as I really know nothing to important, just hear say.

Re: Megapixels & ASA...

Thanks for your assistance everyone....

I didn't see a similarity between the two either, actually I have never thought about the topic?

The question was asked by someone that is not yet a Pixalo member, I have asked the question here on their behalf and I will direct them to this site soon...

Thanks for your comments Boofers, it seems to be a difficult question to answer... I have found an answer that may assist this person, however; the answer does not directly answer this question.

I realize that some of us do not like to venture away from Pixalo to an external website, however; here is the link to the (kind of similar) question found in Flickr Flickr: Discussing megapixels vs. film in I Shoot Film .

I would like to hear more opinions, if anyone else has any more advice?

Thanks again.

Regards
Dean .

Re: Megapixels & ASA...

Thanks for the link, it was an interesting read. Althought I have read this all before it helps to read again as we are always learning. There have been a number of very good film threads on Pixalo. As for not going to other forums, I got spammed to death on my flicker account and only visit moderitly. I have never had any problems here and am proud to say that everything I have learned about film I learned here. Even though I only know some of it
I am up to 15 megapixels on my camera and have gone higher res. with my scanner with 35mm film and other sizes.

Re: Megapixels & ASA...

i dont think htat question can be answered as its two entirely different things that are being asked....... the amount of pixels on a sensor v;s the speed of film? i think someone got themselves a little bit confused!

film.......... its dead.............. so why do people keep harping on about the differences...... there are less and less people shooting film. and its not cos its worse or better its cos its too expensive!......... i am sat here surronded by loads of film equipment, im am giving it away for a donation to the local hospice.... can i give it away? NOPE......... do i want to use it myself......... nope although im tempted to keep the agifold ragefinder as a prop....... it wouldnt be cost effective in using it. and if i dont get shot of it all soon it will be going into the nearest tip.
