Member of Merit 26th February 2009
We are pleased to announce that our very first Member of Merit award goes to Clafra. Clafra has recently been posting a series of excellent portraits. What struck us was that they were taken when he was travelling, and while most of us would be minimizing our kit, he has been using off camera flash (or flashes), umbrellas, reflectors, lighting stands, tripods and all of the associated paraphernalia. Not only that, but his subjects are, at best casual acquaintances or more often complete strangers who can’t even speak his language! Starting out with available light portraits, Clafra has shown a lot of determination to improve his portrait technique, and has made a great effort to get these results that are not just down to chance. I'm glad that you like my work and encourage me to continue. The only thing which concerns me is, how will I actually be able to fly back without the need of an Antonov.
