Monopod support

Trying to come up with an idea for a support for a monopod for when its down low, manfrotto 331 was one but it seems to be not available anymore, any ideas for something like that?

Re: Monopod support

I like a big NAIL with a threaded end and a good ball. Stick it or hold at a tip using your extended shutter button to fire it off.

I was thinking that you might not beleave me. the nail idea is next on line . I made this myself, a 12" soft aluminum pod with a good ball head I was looking for, it's under a desk in the back on the floor. it has 3 thin narrow legs that can be bent out a little. I stick or push two legs in the ground and tip the camera hold the 3rd leg to steady it. I take the picture with my shutter extender. It has given me very good results of spiders doing macro, The good thing about having it stick in the ground is your working so close and in an odd position that if you slip, it dosen't. You can find long nails anywhere, use a die to cut threads that go on your camera or on your ball head. I know it sounds cheap but it works and I was never able to find anything on the market that can perform with it.

Re: Monopod support

Yes, for sure I can send a picture of the 3 thin legs,,,I just have to find it. "it's in my truck on the back floor or in with the camera bags," whoa, might be spiders down there. I've been lucky with these as I have access to a shop and scrap to whittle things togather. I have three that I made, but this one was made with macro in mind so I could have some help. You down around the rocks would do good with three legs that tighten with wing nuts at the ball mount and spikes pointing in out at the end of the legs with all the rock climbing you do. If I was closer we could have a pint and put one up. I should find the picture in no time.

Re: Monopod support

Sorry, my infinity table is covered with two feet of storage. It stands with a 100mm macro without help if bent to hold. I use it with the hand on one leg and the other two pushed in the ground, it will stand at angle without anyhelp to about 60 degrees. Possible addition of screws at feet inward to hold on rocks.

Good luck

Re: Monopod support

What I liked about this pod is that it has no adjustments. Made for a certain kind of land condishion, the legs are stiff enough to bend out or in and when my knee was hurt it helped me take a few pictures. The nail idea was just a big enough nail with the head cut off and threaded for a ball head. It seems that way a lot, things are made for large lots of items and the real need gets looked over.

Re: Monopod support

Like the thinking. There are a lot of over priced gadgets out there that have simple cheap alternatives - minus the hype, chrome and bull**** of course

Re: Monopod support

Not quite sure what this guy is, but I found it while doing my daily cruises on eBay. It looks like it’s on an estate auction which means it’s something that isn’t made any longer. It’s a camera support system that folds up and is adjustable through a weird telescoping method. Pretty cool, but I wouldn’t pay that auction price.
