Learn how to pan shot. Takes practice but looks effective.

Re: motocross shoot

Fast shutter speed to freeze the action, f2.8 or f4 to blur the background, if overcast use higher ISO and don't forget to pan

Re: motocross shoot

Yep - panning is good, make sure that you have a filter on the lens in case you get sprayed with debris, use a lens that will give you wider shots as well as close ups, don't forget that if there are high jumps having the sky as a background will require exposure to be increased by a stop or two, and oh, yes - enjoy it!

Re: motocross shoot

yep panning is a must, and take control of your shutter speed as you want to keep the vehicle sharp but ratin movement in the wheels and panning witll give you movement in the backgrond,

Re: motocross shoot

It'll be harder than it looks!!! Depending on their level - novice or expert - and where you can position yourself, they'll be whipping past you quicker than you realise!! A friend of mine is a motoXer and I've shot him practicing a few times.
